Hi there, Greenfield gaming community,

This is my first post on these forums, and with my introduction, I'd like to suggest some 40K battles this summer. I'd be perfectly wlling to set up the event or, preferably, ask the store to assist in running such an event. If anybody else would like to participate, please post away and hopefully we'll see each other across the table.

If I had time, I'd run the classic campaign my bro and I ran a few years back.  Sadly I'm far too deep into Warmachine and Hordes (you should join us anyways ) and far too annoyed at Games Workshop to do anything big like that.

Although it might be cool to do another one of our one-shot Apocalypse games again at some point.  A tournament might be neat as well.

I'm not sure if our current crop of 40K players is ready for a tournament. I can't say that I definitely have my finger on the pulse of our group but I think that they tend towards more of the "give me a good excuse to play" rather than the "I want to prove that I'm the best" crowd.

Interest in 40K does seem to be on the rise, though. It doesn't hurt that Seth's interest has been reinvigorated by the new Blood Angels codex.

Ok, a tourny was along the lines of my train of thought, but I hear you on the state of the 40k comunity. maybe make it a doubles event? this way, people could play with one of his friends who could help the less experienced player run his army and would allow people to meet twice the amount of players across the table. I could draft something up for you to peak at if you'd like.

Problem with a doubles tournament is I don't think the store has the bodies to do it.

In general, you want at least 4 players for a full tournament.  So with a doubles trounament, you'll need 8.  Plus 4 of those will need to be veterans and 4 would need to be newer players.  I'm not sure you'd be able to pull that off.

Then how do you match them?  Any army with any army?  Matching armies (i.e. marines only with marines)?  Things could get pretty silly if you match anyone with anyone...

I think your best bet would be a single big battle or two.  Again, try Apocalypse.  EVERYONE loves Apocalypse games.

Hello there,

Personally, the idea of a tournament is very exciting as it is exceedingly hard for me to find a match lately! But I would also have to agree with Jay, the crowd is finicky at best, usually due to having their fingers in many different games. I think there are enough players to create the tournament though and it may cause some to dust off their armies and have a go. I know my Tau would love to get beat up by someone new. Also, the idea of an Apocolypse Battle is exciting since I've never seen one played in the store. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope someone makes this happen!

Oh, and since the Blood Angels were brought up I have to say this..Blood Angels=cheese ;) ...of course, I just say this cause I'm terrified.

The Blood Angels points costs will keep them completely under control.

Hehe, very good to hear! Will I be seeing your Angels in either this talked about tournament(which I hope comes to fruition), or 'ard boyz? All I ever see you play recently is Fantasy.

Well, if there is not enough interest for a full scale tournament how about playing some "Kill Teams"?  It would make it so that we could get in several different games against multiple oponents in one session. Also, it could provide an opportunity  for some neat conversions and modeling a kick butt commando force.

Sound off with what you think.

Is the Kill Team thing still supported in the current rules set? I always liked the formay myself.

I am not entirely sure if it is still supported. I know that the big rule book used to have the kill team rules in the back of the book, however I only have the "Black Reach" rule set so I am not sure about current support.

I have found a PDF that has the kill team rule set. In the rules it references the "Last Chancers" as a team option, so the rules would appear to be dated to the last IG codex.

However, according to the Games Day website there will be quite a few events/tables built for Kill Teams at Games Day this year. I would take this to mean that it is still playable.

I would prefer a tournament, and know of 3 or 4 people who would be interested..but I would take the kill teams thing if nothing else I suppose, I have given up hope.

I don't really have enough stuff or interest in playing a whole tournament but I would definitely be up for for kill teams, here are the rules for people who are curious

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/pdf/kill-team-part1.pdf
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/pdf/kill-team-part2.pdf

The wizard games llink definitely works but I am not positive those are the official rules, the forgeworld links worked up until quite recently but I am not sure they still do after the latest redesign of their site.

So yeah, you and I should get together sometime and play a game or two Matt, I haven't seen you in forever.

It looks like the CURRENT version of the Kill Team rules appears in the Battle Missions book. I haven't seen it yet so I can't tell you how it differs but it's nice to know that there's a current version of the rules.

That said, it looks like some folks say that the rules as presented in the last edition of the rule book (which I still have) work just fine.

I'm up for doing one or more of these. It's just a matter of picking one set of rules and sticking with it. Which one do people want to try?

I would vote for the Games-wizard link rules. They appear to be the easiest rule set to learn and play with. The only issues that I have with them is that they do not list senario objectives for the games, but we could easily decide on a senario when we play.

Sundays are generally best for me, but I'm somewhat flexible.

Sundays I have work at 3:00pm. So I could do 12:00 to 2:15. That should be enough time to get a few firefights in.

early sunday sounds like a good deal to me, I will probably be in anyways so if anyone else wants to play a game or two it would be pretty awesome

The earlier the better as far as I'm concerned... and since I have a key, that can be as early as we like.

If we are using the rules from the link that Joe provided then you would have 160 points to play with for your kill teams. Your brute squad numbers are determined by what opponent you are facing.

Would anyone be up for playing on the 23nd? If so the 95th Praetorian will be ready to do battle for the sake of the Mankind.

P.S. Here is the link for the rules I think would be best to use for now. (thank you joe for providing this link)

Hey all you 40k folks!

I will be in the store on Tuesday (9/7/10) afternoon to evening. I will be hanging out to paint for a few hours, so if you are up for a game reply to this post.
