I'm a sucker for quirky games, and even more for largely multiplayer ones. Combine the two, and you have... well... a vague set of information regarding the contents of a box, and little else.

STILL! Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space looks like it has the potential to be wicked neat. It's a boardgame for up to eight players... if you only buy one box! The game has two editions: black box, and white box. Each comes with 8 character cards unique to that edition, and two items out of twelve in each box are unique as well. The two editions also come with unique gameplay modes, and the game has a 'Rules-Editor Manual' included, with thousands of possible game types that you can create to best suit your play style! Throw in online support, like a map-making tool, and you have endless gameplay possibilities!

The two boxes are compatible, so with both, you can have up to 16 players in the game. That is just NUTS to me. The only game that I have with a player capacity that high is Werewolves of Millers Hollow, but Werewolves is meant to be a very quick and straightforward game, with additional players really only extending the game length and little else (not that it needs anything more than that).

The game is slated to come out in September this year. I plan on keeping on top of it, because I love the idea of such a customizable game. If anybody else finds out something more, throw it in this thread!

All right. I've been keeping up with EFtAiOS, and it's looking cooler and cooler. This game is absolutely right up my alley, and the publishers are totally awesome in the way that they are presenting it. The full rules, as well as a map maker and scenario-making system, are all freely available on their website.

Boardgame Geek rated the game 10th best game at Essen Spiel this year. People were able to preorder the game and pick it up at Essen Spiel, but a release date for distributors has not been posted yet. Now that I've seen the rules and read some examples of play, I'll be picking up one of the two boxes as soon as they are available. Aliens, deception, sneaking and tension? Heck yeah, you can count me in.
