Federation commander Movement of ships
Not sure if this is correct forum, please let me know, but here is the question.
My son and I have recently started playing Federation Commander and we are not sure we are moving correctly. We understand the 8 pulses but is our speed, base speed, the number of hexes we could move during the pulses where we can move? For example a ship with a base speed of 8, that costs 6 Energy points, does this mean that during each pulse where 8's can move that ship is allowed to move 8 as long as it has the points to pay for it?
Or is base speed the total number of hexes moved over the 8 pulses?
And on turning after a ship has gone its turn mode, say two, is that two hexes and does it cost?
Does anyone ever play the game at Green Field Games we'd love to come watch.
Proportional Movement: The way the movement system works, if one ship is moving at speed 16, and another at speed 8, the faster ship will move twice as often as the slower ship.
So, if you're moving faster you're going to move a single hex on more sub pulses than somebody moving slowly. In the above example the ship moving 16 moves in twice as many sub pulses as the one moving 8. To answer your question more directly, when you move you move one hex (though I think it's possible to pump extra power into engine during a specific sub-pulse to move an extra hex).
Thank you Jay, that thought (though very small)was starting to form itself in my head as I read the instructions again. It does make sense now.I'm glad to get the confirmation from you.
No problem. It's not the easiest set of rules to read, but it's not really a difficult game to play. Your question got me thinking that it might be time to break it out again.

Jay's played. I'll try and draw his attention to your post.
