Mark your calendars: Hordes Genesis Tournament! August 15th
To celebrate the arrival of Hordes MK2 we're going to have ourselves a little tournament.
Hordes Genesis!
Entry fee is $5
Registration begins at 11, tournament starts at 11:30, so PLEASE get there as early as possible!
The rules for the Genesis event are HERE. (pdf)
Please note this is a Hordes event. BUT, since some folks only have Warmachine armies we shall allow those players to play as well. Unfortunately they cannot compete for a nifty faction coin BUT we're sure we'll have something set aside for those who join us anyways!
Also note that this is a sort of Escalation event. We will start with 25 point lists for the first round. No epic warcasters/warlocks at this time, nor any character models (beasts, solos, etc) EXCEPT character models from Hordes Primal (being a hordes event!).
For the second round, it is 35 points. This list must include the models in your 25 point list. Your caster/lock CAN be an epic version if you wish. You may NOT use any other character warrior models. Character beasts/jacks ARE allowed in this list. Players can also upgrade warbeasts by spending the difference in points between the two models. A normal dire troll may be switched for Mulg, for example, by paying an additional 3 points. See the pdf for other upgrades.
For the third round (and any after that), the list is 50 points. Again, you must use the models in your 35 point list. Any legal model for your army is fine at this point.
Please note that any new players without such a large collections may find solace in the fact that there are many veterans with large collections who, I'm sure, will be willing to lend out a model or three to boost your lists to the required size.
Prizes: Nifty Hordes Faction coins!
Also, we might just happen to find a few other fun things to throw in for prizes. For warmachine players, it appears we may have a t-shirt for you. Plus who knows what other little goodies we might have (found fallen off the back of a truck)!
hmmm. I might jump in on this with my cryx list just for fun. are the Mk2 hordes faction decks and book out already? I need to keep up...
ALL the faction decks are out now. We would LOVE to have you join us.
Do you have 50 points of cryx? If not, one of our veterans might be able to help.
As some of you noticed, for the first time in quite a few years, I was unable to get enough product, (the Horde decks) in the first order. It appears I've got more on the way. With the exception of Skorne, we should see restock by Friday. Skorne should be early next week.
The core Hordes book is due out at the end of the month. The Faction books, in later months.
Charlie, will the Warmachine factions be using the same army construction list as describe in the Genesis pdf, such as they can only take character models from Primal, which is pretty much just Alten (unless I am mistaken), for the first two rounds
Or are the Warmachine players able to use the army construction list that was available for the Warmachine release event, for Warmachine armies, thus allowing warmachine players to take only character models from Prime for the first two rounds.
Or the third option is allowing both Warmachine and Hordes players access to both Prime and Primal characters, for the first two rounds. (I know Trolls can take Boomhowler and Company)
Since there are no themed lists available for Hordes, are you going to be allowing Warmachine players to use themed lists?
I got to ask now so that way I know exactly which models I will be using so I can get to some painting and hopefully have a fully painted army for the event (FOR ONCE).
I think both Prime AND Primal character models will be fine mostly because the really nasty ones (such as Eyriss) won't be much use against Hordes and vice versa. Plus if someone actually has Boomhowler and wants to use them, they should be commended.
I'm fine with Theme lists as well. While it kinda stick that Hordes doesn't get theirs yet, I've personally found for the most part theme lists are a bit more challenging so I'm not too worried with any problems arising.
Since Charlie is allowing both Hordes and Warmachine armies in the Genesis event, I complied the army constuction rules for both Hordes and Warmchine into one big set. Charlie approved it so here it is.
We've got seven signed up so far.
It appears I'll have a restock of Horde cards Wednesday!
Alex is looking for a big loan of Retribution, if anyone's interested. He just started buying and only has 22 points so far.
I'm going to try to muster my Circle, but the dust has settled deeply and I don't even own so many of the models released in the last year +. Ugh.
Oh please....you don't need none of them there new fangled models! You're teh SETHONATOR!
7 people! Thats awesome! Where is mr Hellhound? I bet he has some Retribution he might lend out...
I have the following armies if anyone needs to borrow some models:
Warmachine: Retribution, Mercenary, Protectorate, Cryx, Khador and Cygnar. Some armies I have 50 to 100% of all the models while others like Cygnar and Khador I only have themed lists and/or just a few models.
Hordes: Circle, Skorne (Just the battlebox), Legion (One Warlock and Two Warbeast but they are all unassembled), and Minions, plus I am sure Rena will let anyone borrow whatever Trolls she will not be using in the tournament
For the player looking for Retribution, I have the following:
Warjacks: Chimera, Manticore
Solos: Arcanist, Ghost Sniper (x2), House Shyeel Magister, Mage Hunter Assassin (x2), Narn, Nayl plus I have both versions of Eiryss.
Units: Riflemen, Mage Hunter Strike Force, Stormfall Archers.
Unit Attachments: Riflemen Officer and Standard Bearer, Strike Force Commander and Soulless Escort (x3).
Plus I have the following Mercenary models that will work for Retribution: Madelyn Corbeau, Cylena Raefyll and the Nyss Hunters and Lady Aiyanna and Master Holt.
Either reply in this thread or send me a private message by Saturday night at the lastest because I may not check forums or email before I leave for the event on Sunday morning.
Seth, I just noticed in the twitter section of the website, you have this listed:
Monday the fifteenth we here at Greenfield Games are having a BIG Hordes (&Warmachine) tournament. Be there (here) or be square!!!
You may want to change it to the right day, Sunday the 15th.
The Retribution player is Alex. He only has 20 points or so. So if you could bring 30 points (or your whole box) that'd be cool.
I'm curious if any of the other 7 will need anything. Perhaps Seth could find out...or someone could check the sign-up sheet what people with what armies we are likely to expect come sunday.
I myself will be bringing all my Trolls and all my Menoth in case anyone needs anything.
Yarg! Alex here. Today I actually bought 18 more points of my pointy eared friends, but I need 10 more points, and would welcome if you brought your solos. I think they should cover me. Thanks a bunch. I'll be sure to crush some Hordes. Muwahahahaha.
Cool....anyone ever tell you you're a perfectly wonderful fire demon?
I will bring my Retribution solos with me to the event.
4 days and counting...
I am going to meet up with a friend and test run my army against his pansy Cygnar army.
I'm tempted to actually play in it instead of run it :)
Hopefully we will have an odd number of players that way if you do end up playing no one will get a bye. Right now it looks like seven players but I still have to signed up but I will on Thursday, when I head up to also vote for the painting contest. Rena is still trying to see if she can get anyone to switch shifts with her or just take a shift from her so she can make it to the event.
Well I was thinking about stealing that Troll coin!
Oh and is Mark on that list? I'm fairly certain he's coming.
We've got eight signed up including John and not Mark.
Alex was wondering if I was speaking in an official capacity when I said even Retribution had the same restrictions on characters (in Prime & Primal, initially) as per the rules. I said, "Of course, plus I always speak in an official capacity, even when totally wrong."
I am right, right?
In post number 8, I put up the army list building rules, that everyone has to follow. So for Retribution, Alex can take each Round the following models:
Round One: Any Warcaster, Any Warjack, Any non-Character Units or Solos, Non-Epic Eiryss is the only character model that can be taken in Round One.
Round Two: Since Retribution has no Epic Warcaster or Character Warjacks, the only thing that can be taken in Round Two are Warjacks, non-Character units and solos.
Round Three: Any models that will work for Retribution. You have to check with Charlie to see if Alex can upgrade Non-Epic Eiryss to Epic Eiryss, if not he cannot upgrade to Epic Eiryss and ALex wants to take Epic Eiryss in his army then he has to wait til this Round to put her into the army list but ALex would not be able to use non-Epic Eiryss in his earlier two rounds.
Yeah, I'm afraid we don't get to see Epic Eriyss until round 3
Can players upgrade non-epic Eiryss to her epic version in Round 3 or do they have to wait til Round 3 to add Epic Eiryss to their army list, which means they cannot use non-epic Eiryss in the first two rounds.
I think an upgrade is fine.
Since you can use a character model or unit from Prime or Primal (and she counts), I see no reason why you couldn't upgrade her (free!) in round 3.
So it looks like the only models of that anyone needs to borrow are my Retribution solos since I have not heard back from anyone else. I will bring them to the event. See you all there.
Pretty late, but Adam's looking to borrow Troll cards and maybe one or two trolls to fill out his points.
Without any idea of what he needs, I can let him borrow Rena's cards and her two Earthborn Trolls that are in the display case at the store. They are ten points a piece, one of them will cover the point difference for Round 2 and the second can either cover the 15 point spread for Round 3 or be used in Round 1. Charlie may have more models available.
Good tournament and great turn out. Next time Circle will crush all!!!!!
Two words: Good times.

Charlie, the pdf says that you can take character models from Primal MKII in the first round.
