I'm thinking about putting on some miniature painting classes and I'd love to get some input from those of you who may consider attending something like this.

My current thinking is two classes:

Basic Miniature Painting - Covers everything the new painter needs to know about painting miniatures. Assembly, priming, choosing your colors, care and feeding of paint brushes, laying down that first coat of paint to the last coat of paint.

I actually think that even though it will be targeted at new painters, it could be instructive for anybody. I know that I always benefit from hearing about how other approach their painting.

Intermediate Miniature Painting Techniques - This would cover things like shading (washes, blending), drybrushing does and don'ts, making the most of metallics, and... other stuff.

First - would you be interested in attending something like this? How long do you think that they should be (I'm thinking two hours minimum) what specific topics would you want to see covered? Any other suggestions?

Please give me your feedback.

I would be highly interested in this.  If I could only paint better perhaps my poor Raek would have won this month's Painting Contest

I have Privateer Press's DVD and Game Workshop Model Painting book but it only goes so far with me, so I could use the help to step my painting up a bit.

For me it would be all about the time/day.  I have no problem coming in for a few hours, it would just have to be at the right time and on the right day.

As far as topics, anything from the basics up would be great for me. For more specific topics, blending, creating light on a model from things like fires or lamps that the model is carrying,  non-metalic metals (I found an article online on how to do Chrome and I want to be more confident in my painting skills before I try this idea on any of my models), painting crystals/ice and while I know it is not technically painting, I was thinking about basing too.  For right now, I usually just throw some sand/rocks done and paint over them but I think painting a good base adds to the overall appearance of the model, plus you do have to paint the base.

Basing! That's something I hadn't thought about and something everybody forgets about. I think that definitely needs coverage in the basic class and more could definitely be done with the intermediate class.

NMM is not something that I am proficient in - but I know people who are. With any luck I might be able to get some help on that if that was something more people were interested in.

Source lighting is something that I understand... but never do. I should find a good mini for that and give it a try.

I love the idea of a class! I have some basic knowledge on painting, enough to make it look like my models were not  painted with finger paint, but that is about it.

I would be very interested in learning more about basing & working with metalic paint. Also, I would be interested in glazing technique. I have red about it, but I have never been able to pull it off well.

I think this would be an AWESOME idea.  I doubt I'd ever get to join in, but I think it'd be great for the youngin's.

This would be awesome. I would definitely show up for the classes if I wasn't working. It's better than paying a buddy of mine to paint them for me, and more rewarding too!!

Okay, well my current plan is to schedule the first class for next month. I have to talk to Seth about scheduling. Any day of the week is possible. Saturday's are generally too busy so a Sunday, maybe. Even a week night might be good. Thoughts from those who might like to attend?

Weeknights or weekends would be better for me.

Weeknights, except for Tuesdays, work great for me.

I would not be able to make it in during the weekdays because I have all evening classes, this semester.  I could go every Saturday morning/noon but if the store is too busy that day, I could make it in every other Sunday unless that Sunday falls on a Warmachine/Hordes Tournament, I can't miss one of those.
