Our next tournament is appropriately named: "New guy!  PANTS EM!"

Where: Greenfield games

When: April 18th, Starting at Noon

Format: One army list only, 15 points MANGLED METAL format (meaning NO SOLOS or UNITS may be prushaces with those 15 points.  Note that SOME warcasters come with 'free' units or solos....those warcasters are only exceptions to the mangled Metal rule.)

Entry fee:  Free!

Prizes: A Warmachine or Hordes T-shirt, Faction certificates, and anything else that may have fallen off a truck somewhere!

(More info below)

Ok, this is going to be a new one for all of us.  I've noticed we've had a number of newer players starting Warmachine and Hordes, and its time for them to experience a tournament!

Now to make things easier for them, this is going to be a 15 point Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw tournament.  What this means is you bring a single caster and his persona warjacks or warbeasts.  No solos or units (which is pretty much what the enwer guys have anyways)!

SO WE'RE LOOKING YOU NEW GUYS!

You just start playing?  This is your chance to show your mettle!  We want you there!

If some of you are lacking in models and can't make a 15 point list, this is probably a good time to start buttering up the veteran players!  For example, for any new Protectorate of Menoth players out there, I have about 150 points of models so I'm sure I could spare a jack or two.

I also have an extensive Trollblood army, and a Cygnar starter pack.

I'm sure other veterans will be willing to help out a bit as well.

Are we bringing just one list?

Goreshade, with his feat of Bane Thralls, are you going to allow them, just in case anyone shows up with him?

And on that topic as well, what about those models that have companions that are not jacks or beasts, like Darius and his halfjacks, Mort and her personal skarlock and Kegslayer with his little keg bearer?

Since the Avatar is not part of a battlegroup are you going to allow it?

It's better to get these questions out of the way now then at the tournament.

As for helping out, I have all the mercs jacks, most of the Cryx and Menoth jacks, a handfull of Khador and Cygnar jacks and one heavy and two light Retribution jacks.  For Hordes, I have most of the Circle warbeasts, I have the Skorne Battlebox and Rena has all the Troll warbeasts.  Just let me know if anyone needs anything and as long as I am not using it in my army list then they can burrow it for the tournament.

The Avatar has always been allowed in Mangled Metal games as the rule states "Only a warcaster and warjacks.  No solos or units."...nothing about the battlegroup.  But remember that the free warjack/warbeast points MUST be spent on the battlegroup jacks.  In other words, if someone takes the Avatar, they will only have another 4 points to spend on jack which could easily mean being outflanked.

To attempt to 'balance' the tournament by not allowing certain feats (goreshade) or companions (halfjacks, keg bearer, etc), would be far too confusing.  Plus all the casters are supposed to be balanced as they are...some might have a slight advantage, but thinking through game problems is what makes this game fun.

But since I'm trying to attract the newer guys, I'd appreciate if the veteran's played a little more nicer

And yes I think just one list.

Count me in! I'm looking forward to playing some Warmachine, if anyone wants to play a few practice games before the big day please let me know, I have some free time on sundays and want to get back to playing this game regularly... I still need to learn the nuances of the MKII rules

Yay! I like this idea. I can easily jump into 15 points MM. I have some Khador & Cygnar I can loan to a new player.

Hey Joe, I'll probably be around this coming sunday for a game or six!

If Sethanator plays in this...well, just the chance to smack his silly Khador tincans around is reason enough to play!

And in case some people don't visit the website much, we all need to let people know this is coming up...

You should Daniel! I haven't seen you in the game store in ages!

I am pretty excited for this tournament, it looks like it is shaping up to have a bunch of people and also be awesome. remember to keep spreading the word folks, I think we could get Tim playing again with a little encouragement, last time I talked to him he wasn't sure his old cygnar army was still good with the new rules.

Yeah, Tim needs to play and see his Chowderhead is actually still pretty mean.

In the interest of leveling the playing field between new players and the veterans, I think it would be nice for all the veterans to trade forces with each other.

This will give us veterans opportunities to try other armies and handicap us for the new players.

Perhaps Charlie wants to try playing my Gorten Searforge, maybe John wants to try Charlie's Protectorate.  (That is, if John doesn't already have Protectorate.  How many forces do you have, John? :D)

I, for example, might be interested in playing something totally different:  Cryx.

Any thoughts?

I personally think thats a pretty cool idea.

I have a couple other ideas to help the noobs as well if no one likes this idea.  Either way, I'm thinking there needs to be extra 'cool points' for a veteran that handicaps himself.

By the way.  Has anyone been talking to the newer guys?  I'm doing this for them hands down, and I'd hate to not see any of them...

I spoke with Adam. He tried to come up with a hundred reasons why he couldn't  participate. "Nah. I don't have any money. Oh free? But I only have, like four models. Only 15 points? But I don't even own any infantry yet. Mangled Metal is what? Oh well I guess I can play.

The others of his group are in similar situations. I'll be sure to remind Jacob & any others I see.

Heh...

Don't forget to tell them that there are penty of us who are willing to loan out models.  And dang it, I am going to make this tournament worthwhile if it kills me.

Do you really want to know?!

I have all but two Mercs (Sea Dog Deck Gun & Forge Guard), most of the Protectorate, Cryx and Circle (as well as all but 3 minions models, I still need Brun, Rorsch and Wrongeye and their warbeasts).  For smaller armies I have two Khador casters and the minimum requirements for both of their theme lists.  I have two Cygnar casters and for one of them I have the minimum requirements for his themed list, I have the Skorne Battlebox.

I can also steal some of Rena's trolls and she and I share the Retribution army.

So the only army I currently have none of is Legion.  Of course once MKII Hordes drops I will be picking up at least one or two Legion warlocks and most likely do their themed lists.

Now with that done, I can bring plenty of army lists with me to the tournament.  Though I think I can one up you Mark, how about us vets throw all our lists into a hat and just pick a list.  You may get one of your own lists or another player's list.  Or if you wanted to go a little lighter on the randomness, put all the factions, that we have lists for, in a hat and draw a faction and then choose an army from the available lists.  No matter what, I will bring at least one or two lists for each faction I have.

I think having the vets draw an army from a hat sounds like fun.

Seth, correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Adam have Protectorate and Jacob is going with Cryx, right?  I have both of those factions and if they want to borrow something just send me a message and I will bring it with me to the tournament.  Who are the other "new guys", what factions do they have and do they need to borrow any models?

Yep Adam has Protectorate, Jacob's got Cryx.

I think we just have those two at this point.

YEEEEHA!  And an awesome time was had by ALL!

Yeah, that was probably one of the most amazing tournaments I've seen.  Adam and his Protectorate actually came in 1st with a complete shut out of 3 wins and zero losses!!!!  ALL AGAINST VETERAN PLAYERS MIND YOU!

Even Jacob placed in the tournament.  This means of course that neither of these guys are considered noobs!  OPEN SEASON boys!

Yeah, I can't wait for the next tournament....we're thinking something like a 25 pointer.
