So, this is really it. Tomorrow, Sunday, January 17th, 2010, I'll be moving out to live on-campus at UMass Amherst. I'll be leaving my job here at Greenfield Games behind. I figured that after the year-and-a-bit that I've worked here, some thanks were in order.

First, I'd like to thank Bubba. You helped me out as an excellent friend and mentor. I couldn't have asked for a better trainer to get me into the job and running things as smoothly as a newbie can. You've also left me with a strong cleaning ethic, you jerk. Soon I'll start cleaning my room or something.

Jay, your painting is a source of awe and inspiration. You're an excellent source of information about what's going on in the gaming industry, keeping up with the news so that nobody else has to. You also have all sorts of neat stories to tell. I hope that my life after school will be even half as interesting as yours.

Joe, your knowledge of board games has guided me towards some excellent purchases. I don't believe that I've had a conversation with you that hasn't left me with a smile or a new tidbit of information. Thank you for that. Keep up the monotone.

Above all, I'd like to thank Seth. Seth, you've provided me with what I fear may be the best work experience that I'll ever have. You've been exremely friendly and supportive. You've helped me through all of the learning and bungles with patience and understanding. You've made this first step into working comfortable and positive, and I'm extremely thankful for that.

Lastly, thank you to the Games community as a whole. You can't have a great job without a great community. You're all a bunch of crazy, fun-loving gamers, and it's shaped who I am as a gamer. I first came here as a little kid who liked cards. My first time in here was during a MagiNation Duel tournament. I got the crap kicked out of me by those of you who knew the rules and such, but I had so much fun! I wish I knew where the shirt that I won in the after-tournament raffle disappeared to. Since then, I've played all sorts of RPGs, board games, card games, and strange combinations of them all. I've tried big names, indie games, complex cut throat strategy games, whacky, rules-lite activities, and everything in-between.

Thank you all for a wonderful work experience. I'll try my best to cruise through my school work so that I can swing back here on weekends. It's going to be wicked strange to show up as just a customer again after a bit more than a year working for you folks, but I'm looking forward to it. See you all on the game tables.

He makes it sound like he's never coming back.

Oh you will be...you will be!

I know I'll be back, Charlie. I plan to stop by as often as I can. Even so, I figured that it would be nice to give my first real job a fitting good-bye. It's going to be really weird not to work there.

It will be really weird for us not to have you here as well. I feel like we've been pretty lucky in terms of the people that we've had working at the store... which may be why trying to replace you is so tough.
