I just ran across this series of videos from a painting service in the UK called Artmaster Studios. This particular video series shows one of their artist painting Ursarkar Creed from the Imperial Guard start to finish. Eight videos, an hour and 20 minutes (give or take). This is the first one, but you shoul dbe able to choose the second one when you're finished (and so on).

What I like about this is that there's really no edits. You are watching somebody paint from start to finish - seeing his entire process. This is actually a lot different from my own style as I use a combination of direct highlights and washes... where this gentlemen mostly works with straight highlighting. It's what I've always thought of as "The Foundry Method" since it's similar to how Wargames  Foundry has all of their miniatures painted. It's essentially a three color highlighting system leaving a black line between elements of the miniature. This painter's version of that is a little subtler, though. I like the results.

Wow, thanks Jay.

I always wanted to take my painting to the next level and this series of videos gave me a bunch of new ideas.

Cheers.

Glad to hear it. I usually find this kind of thing helpful - even if I don't necessarily learn any new techniques. It's always interesting to see how somebody else applies them. In this case, I thought for sure that he was going to be using more washes than he does.  But you find out at the end the the only wash he uses is Griffon Sepia on the gold bits.

I was expecting more washes as well.  I certainly use them frequently.

Making Trees

I recently had a chance to help somebody make some trees using this technique. It's really easy and the results are very realistic. This video provides a pretty brief overview of how to do it but really it's mostly common sense stuff.

People have been asking me about the mud on the tracks of my latest tank. This is a good tutorial on how to get that effect.
