Back in the age old day of a rule set called Mark 1, a new faction of war reared its pointy eared head.  The Retributin of Scyrah.  Folks wanted to celebrate...Menoth knows why.  But those in power brought forth a tournament known as FLASHPOINT.

We at Greenfield Games wanted to play in this tournament, but unfortunately the timing was off.  The prize pack was forgotten and hidden in an old shoe box in the back of Seth's closet of antique trombones and his collections of spores, mold, and fungi...BUT it was recently recovered after a terrific battle with a myconid the size of a small horse!  So we have decided to use this prize pack...as old as it is...

Obviously, things have changed since Mark 1, so there will be a few modifications.  But here is the idea:

The armies of Immoren have seen the borders of Ios open once again and have decided there are some very valuable areas of land that would lend their people advantages in the wars to come.  Warbands have been sent to take what land they can from the Retribution...and each other.

The standard rules are HERE.

The changes are as follows:

1. We're not playing 750 armies!  As we all know, the MK2 rules have models priced much lower.  Instead we will be playing 35 point armies.  ONE LIST ONLY, so make a good "take all comers" list.

2. The Arcanist medal will go to the best painted Warjack or Warbeast, and does not require the entered model be a Myrmidon model.

3. Expect to see special "Ios" themed terrain that will have special effects during your games.

All other Flashpoint rules are in effect.

Retribution armies are encouraged (You can't let these unclean barbarians take your landl!)

Format: Flashpoint

Time: Noon!

Entry Fee: $5

Where: Greenfield Games

Any other information to be posted as it comes.

Charlie does the warjack for the painting contest have to be part of a player's army list?  I was thinking about putting together one of those character upgrade kits but of course the model would not be legal for the tournament.

Hmmmm....as the original rules specify Myrmidom jack, and not everyone would play Retribution, I'm going to assume the intent was anyone could enter the jack even if it wasn't in their army

So yes, any jack or beast will work.

I love that closet. I love those trombones you dented. Did you have to stomp on the fungi!?

Khador will be there (or Circle or maybe Cygnar....who knows)

I will be there with Rena and Antonio.  I was actually in Friendly's today for breakfast and the waiter noticed I was looking at my warmachine books and he told me that he plays Retribution, so I mentioned the two tournaments and he said he may try to make it to this one.  He normally plays at a place called Base Camp in Russel.  It is some kind of pizza shop/game store.

If anyone needs to borrow anything for the event just let me know ahead of time.

Also, Charlie, I am going to try out some themed lists before I decide on if I want to use one in the event.  If it turns out I want to use a Menoth list, would it be possible to borrow a unit or some solos?

Sure, just let me know what you need ahead of time.  And just FYI, I don't have many 'doubles' of solos...so if your trying 4 reclaimers or 4 allegiants, you're out of luck.

Just to give you a heads up, I am eyeballing the following themed lists with the models I would need:

Epic Kreoss:  A unit of Knight Exemplar

Reznik:  A unit of Flameguard Cleaners and maybe some Wracks.  I like this themed list, it allows you to use the Wracks almost like you could back in MKI, since they can be deployed 20 inches from the table edge.

Vindictus:  A unit of Exemplar Errants and a Castigator and a Reckoner.  Vindictus can only have jacks with SPD 5 for for tier 3 and he needs three heavy jacks for tier 4 and I only have a Reckoner.  I may or may not need the Zealots too as I may just pick this unit up because I currently do not own one yet.

If you need to build an army just in case you want to play to, which is always cool with me, and you need those units, that's not a problem, I can always play a non-themed list with the stuff that I have.

Also the Trollblood book is out this week or at least this month, so if you want to do a troll themed list, I can see what Rena is not going to be using from her trolls and you can borrow anything she is not using if you want to make a themed list.  I hear that new warlock is pretty sweet.  A troll with a bazooka, what's not to love.

Knights Exemplar, I can do easy.  Cleansers, i can do a single minimum unit.  I have a full unit of errants EXCEPT the new UA.  I have no castigators or reckoners unfortunately.  I have plenty of zealots.

I'd probably end up bringing trolls if anything.

Captain "bazooka joe" Gunnbjorn is definitely pretty neat.  AWESOME spells.  He can give his whole battlegroup boosted ranged attack and damage rolls.  He can make a rockwall.  He has SNIPE!  But he looks better on paper from what I understand.  In other words, he's balanced like everyone else.

I heard he had explosivio too and that every time he gets hit he spawns a Dire Troll Extreme.  Well I think the explosivio is at least correct

I got a look at Gunnbjorn yesterday.

The only ability he has is Critical Devastation, yes the dame thing the Mule has.

He has explosivio, Rock Wall, Snipe and Guided Fire.  Charlie, you were a little off on Guide Fire, it just gives his battlegroup boosted ranged attack rolls for one turn, so you still have to force/spend fury to boost the damage rolls.

His feat affects all friendly faction models, gives them a modified version of Dig In, they get cover and do not suffer blast damage but instead of not blocking LOS the models instead cannot be knockdown.

The only problem that I see is the lack of offensive spells

SInce his gun RNG is the same as his control area, you can "premeasure" before you take a shot.

This model is a real nice piece for Trolls, I think he is more of a range support piece while the only other good range warlock for trolls, Grim, is more of the solo hunter type.

Defintiely a range support caster.  He's pretty damn cool, but not amazing.

For example, he gets a REAL bad matchup against Legion (eyeless sight ignores all that cover).  You'll notice he doesn't have a damaging spell, so he's vulnerable to incorporeals.  He'd have to cast Explosivo on himself to kill them.

Plus there isn't alot of ranged trolls for Guided Fire.  Bomber and Blitzer mostly, but their range is pretty sad.  Impaler too although he doesn't do much unless you get the crit slam and even with boosted attacks you're looking at around a 40% chance to do it.  Basically it become a precarious balancing act with how many ranged trolls to take and still make Guided Fire efficient...and Gunnbjorn only has 6 focus, so its tough.

In addition, the snipe isn't that great with what we have for units.  Bushwackers are too expensive and far too flimsy, Scattergunners are sprays (so it doesn't effect them), and the new Sluggers need to stay still to be worthwhile (6 man unit with slugger guns...get d3 shots if they stand still).  So the best choice is Sluggers and you really need to move in competetive play.

Explosivo sounds kinda neat on the Bushwackers, but I'd think the Bomber would do a better job at killing infantry with that lovely ROF 2, AOE 4.

In general, you need to move fast in competetive play or you'll lose by scenario.  Gunny is more of a "come git me!" caster and works sort of like the Cygnar gun lines.  I think balancing good shooting units and trolls with other models that are fast enough and tough enough to take objectives is going to be hard.

In short, I think he'll be awesome in 'fun play', but tougher to use in tournaments.  Exept perhaps Stampede formats...hmmmm......

That would be Danny. He is one of our Ret. players playing in the WM/HDS campaign right now. Good guy and fun to play against. We just had a four way game for the campaign and he was on my table. I completed my objectives first, so was out early. I walked away to check on other games and chat, came back and he was whooping the two Cygnar guys! It was some of the most amazing dice rolling I have ever seen. They ganged up on him and eventually took him out, but what a run. I think you guys will really enjoy playing against him if he makes this. We are usually up at Base Camp each Saturday from 3pm on. Normally we don't leave until 2am! LOL Just about everyone plays WM and 40K. Stop by some time if you guys can. The pizza is great as well.

Good luck in the event guys. Looking forward to seeing the after event post.

Raise your flagons Sons of Russ, the dawn of our victory is upon us!!

Hey guys,

I have a full unit of cleansers and all but the most recent protectorate jacks that I'd be happy to lend out.  Just let me know and I'll bring them along :)

Charlie, the rules say there is no time limit to the games but there is a 10 minute turn length.  Are you going to be sticking with the 10 minute turn or 7 minute just like Pirate Day?  I know three minutes is not much but it does make a difference in what I bring to the table.

We'll stick with the 10 minute turns.

Less than a week away   Who is ready to have some fun!  I cannot wait to see this cool Retribution terrain.

Also Charlie, I talked with Jarred again and he is trying to get the day off from his job so he can make it to the tournament.  If he can get the time off, can he still borrow your unit of Flameguard cleaners?  He needs two so I am going to lend him my unit as well.  I am going to talk to him on Tuesday and find out if he is coming.

Charlie, you don't have to bring the Cleanser because Jarred could not get the day off.  Well at least Antonio, Rena and I wiil be there.

Don't worry about it, I am not expecting anything fancy, just some normal terrain, you know the stuff that lights up and has cool moving parts but, all in all, nothing fancy

But enough about the terrain, I just hope everyone brings their A game.  Why you ask? Because when my army hits the table you are going to hear only one thing before Death rains down upon all of you

MAN!  What an awesome event!

We had TEN players, once again thanking the good fellows from up north who came to join us.  Always a real pleasure with those guys.  And since this was a "Stampede" style event we needed a floating player...which meant *I* got to play a few games!  Woot!

Some very interesting stats too:

Overall winner (Dawnlord) went to Kraig.  Kraig had a VERY simplebut VERY effective army.  Regular old Kaya, 4 warpwolves, and a gorax!  I found this excessively amusing since the PP forums seem to say she's no good, but DAAANNGGG that "yoyo" trick of hers is quite brutal with 4 heavy beasts!

Most flags taken (Fane Knight) went to Brian.  Brain ran a pretty standard Cygnar list with Siege.

Most VP's for character models killed (Mage Hunter) went to our own local Joe!  Joe had his rocking Everblight list eat up TWENTY EIGHT points of character models in ONE GAME!!!!!

Best painted model (Arcanist) went to Aubrey for a very impressive Molik Karn.  It was a close race with Brian's Ol' Rowdy, and John's Raek.

I can't speak much for other peoples games, since I was running around, or even getting a game in myself, but:

1) Ryhas still hurts as much as she did in MK1 when she hits things...if not harder.  TWO fully healed beasts killed by her in one turn...absolutely insane.

2) Gunnbjorns gunline is very mean.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for a great event!  I think I can speak for the six of us when I say it was an excellent time:)

Very much looking forward to the next one!  Charlie, you definitely deserve to bask in the glow of this event for a while, but any word on what the future holds?

Thanks!

Actually thats a good question...

I'm thinking Nov 21 for the next event.  Gives everyone plenty of time to prepare and get jazzed up.  Although we COULD do the 14th if need be, we just want to avoid Thanksgiving weekend I think.

I'm also thinking something in December.  December 12th perhaps.  We don't want to get too close to winter-solstice-day, plus we want to have enough time after November's tournament.  I'm also not sure what to run in Dec simply because we probably want something simpler and not quite as crazy...perhaps a smaller point tournament like 25 point or something?

So here is the next question:  What do we need to do to attract so many people again?

The next two probably won't have medals or coins from PP, so we'd have to do an entry fee to have a prize other than the free certificates.  I don't seem to see as many people for free certificates only. :)  So I'm assuming everyone would be more excited with a small entry fee and having gift cards as prizes?

I'm thinking a testing of the new Steamroller 2011 rules for november.

There is also the tournament idea I mentioned at the Flashpoint:  Big list of acheivements you can score, try to get as many as possible to win (overall wins won't matter too much).  The general idea there is it works much like the Flashpoint event (where you play until someone wins...no time limit).  I'm thinking if we used this format with a small 25 point list it would be perfect for the more hectic holiday season during december.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Requests?

Hey Charlie,

For whatever it's worth, it sounds cool to me to have a November thing and a December thing.  I'll start to put the word out on the date and see what the gents all say.  As far as fees go, I guess anything up to 10$ is ok, the smaller fees are nice too though, whatever works!  Gift certificates are also cool.  I've always thought the coolest prizes were painted minis though...maybe there's a awy to work out some single model volunteer painting work for prize support?  I'd paint a single model here or there to give away if it was paid for by prize support....just a thought.

Also, just my own input here, tier lists are awesome.  What about a way to make a tier tourney happen?  Here's an idea stolen/co-opted from Hacksaw.  35 points, 4 rounds.  If your army is tier one, you can win a random prize after the first round, tier two you are in the hat for 1st and 2nd round, tier 3 your name is in the drawing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round, round 4...you get the idea.  prizes can be totally tiny things like a pack of card protectors, a funny looking 6 sided die, etc.  then some sort of prize for the winner, maybe since it's a tier tournament a tiered cake? :)

Also, have you ever heard of mystery boxes?  Cool prize idea from iron agenda podcast.  Ok, that's a lot of typing, sorry about that.  What do you think Charlie? John? Other GG guys?

Thanks,

-Aubrey
