New president is sworn in!

We have promises of alternative energy, and a pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Also promises of health care and education reform. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next 4 years; If just these things improve over the next term I'll be pretty impressed.

While I'm a huge Obama fan, I have to say anyone with a pulse trying to help us WILL help us. I mean, Bush got us to the bottom of the barrel. We can really only go up from here.

Now to fix EVERYTHING that was destroyed over the last 8 years? THAT would be impressive. Sadly I don't think 8 years will be enough to overhaul our country, but here's hoping.

I've been feeling cynical and bitter about politics and American culture in general for years now. Throughout this campaign, but especially during this speech, I feel like he said I'm not the only one and we really might be able to start down a road to improvement and real human kindness. I hope to god this is the end of the "Me" generation and the start of something greater, that I know I've been missing in my daily dose of humanity.

People looking for humanity from the government are barking up the wrong tree. If you want humanity in your life you need to get involved. I don't mean donating to charity (although there are worse things to do with your money), I mean getting out there and donating your time.

Then again I'm a lazy gamer, so what do I know. Bring me my share humanity Mr. President.

Why did you quote your own message. Are you inflating your ego?

I disagree. I think looking at the people who decide to send bombs or food is a good place to find very good representatives of humanity, or lack of it. I think you are expressing some of the cynicism many of us have felt for the last decade or so.

But in a fairly successful democratic process, I figure you can expect your elected representatives to reflect the pervading attitude of the people who elected them. Obama to me is a mirror, as Bush was before him. We do not elect people we can't relate to, or at least not people who read speeches to which we can relate.

He's still a politician who applied for and got job I would never want, surrounded by people I could not stand spending a week around, led by money and power. But I think he might be representing an actual real shift in the US' culture.

Or he'll just get shot like the rest of those who's footsteps he seems to be following. In which case I'll be hard pressed to not join the rioters.
