Infinity
Okay. So, Jal introduced me to this game by showing me how freaking sweet the models look. Really, the sculpts are AWESOME. Cyberpunk sci-fi with anime and manga inspiration? Heck yes! Step two: Playtesting the game. Done and done! There have been three proxy games played so far: Jal vs. Joe, Val vs. Seth, and me playing against Francis. Everybody's had positive feedback and a downright good time. There have only been a few newbie errors thus far, and they seem to have been relatively minor. Really, the game has been quite newbie-friendly. Replay value! I am a horrible wargamer. 40k or Warmachine, I suck at it. When it comes to minis, MonsterPocalypse is good enough for me. I like to keep games small, exciting and constantly moving. Long turns of inactivity wear me out quickly. Not a problem at all with Infinity. Francis and I played a 150 point game, recommended as the minimum in the rulebook (medium games of about 250-350 seem common, according to the Infinity forums), and it took us about an hour, excluding army building (Francis had to take some time as he's not yet familiar with all of his units). I think that as we all grow accustomed to the rules, 150-point games will take as little as half an hour to play, which is wonderful. There was constant interaction as troops reacted to movements on the active player's side, as well as lots of maneuvering and careful positioning of suppressive fire. Our one big bumble was in regards to the Impetuous attribute. Impetuous troops get a free movement at the start of the turn which must be spent to race as quickly as possible towards the nearest enemy unit. What we did not take into account is that this does NOT mean that they are suicidal. They CAN maneuver to avoid suppression zones (any units moving through suppressive fire are shot at with the full burst value of the suppressor's weapon, which is just DEADLY when you have an HMG set up in an alley), minefields, and other dangerous areas, so long as they are still maneuvering towards enemies as quickly as they can while avoiding the area. In short, because we thought that they HAD to take the most direct route, Francis plowed his people straight into a meatgrinder. All of my units were tucked behind a curtain of machinegun fire, so Francis kept zipping his Impetuous units right through it, and I managed to hit each and every one of them. He managed to kill one of my units, while I wiped out all but his lieutenant. Hopefully, with our new knowledge about Impetuous movement in mind, our next game will be less one-sided. All in all, I had a good time. I'm definitely going to do some more proxy games to see what Panoceania units I like best and order them. Jal is hoping to put in an order this weekend. I definitely recommend that anyone who's interested play a few proxy games with us to see if you like the rules and gameplay.
The full rules are a free download on the website for the game. They do sell hard copies as well. I or somebody like me could post the link when they are not behind a firewall.
I know that the rules are available for free (and even posted a link on our Facebook group to them - I'll got find that in a sec) but I MUCH prefer to have a hard copy. A searchable PDF is handy as well, but give me a hard copy any time.
Here's the link to the rules:
So I ordered my force, and I will have it in my grasp soon, and soon ALL SHALL KNOW THE FURY THAT IS ME!! when everything is put together anyway.
i have just finished painting one of my absolutely fabulous infinity miniatures, and he is now in the display case at the shop. I have finished painting the Avatar, and, besides my necrons, was one of my fastest paint jobs ever, and he is SO AWESOME!!!! I love my mini's, they are the smoothest models I have ever seen.
Next on my list, is the Charontid.
I can't wait to see it!
Because I hate working from print-outs and PDFs I went ahead and picked up the Infinity rulebook today. I look forward to finally reading through the rules set. Sure, I've already played it a couple of times but I hate not having the book.
Looks awesome, btw.
Just. Freaking. Cool!

The two little girls come from Hasselfree in the UK:
It would be nice if the store could order hasslefree, they have some interesting minis.
Agreed.
We have one distributor that carries odd stuff like this but they don't currently carry this line. Frankly, they have about 20 different minis that I'd like to buy right now.
So, after reading Kassidy's post and, in particular, "Cyberpunk sci-fi with anime and manga inspiration" I had to check Infinity out. I went to the website and I was totally blown away by the sculpts! These guys are good. I'm downloading the rules and errata now. I wish I had more time for more games. This stuff just looks great. Perhaps, I'll venture out to GG to watch some games.
There's a new web-based army building tool for Infinity!

It's still in testing but it seems to be mostly functional.
Haha. I'm a lean, mean, game-promoting machine. :]
I recently picked up the Yu Jing starter set, painted a few of the guys and played another game with Tim today. I was reminded of how much I enjoyed playing the game the first times I tried it with proxy minis. It's just a great system. Definitely at the top of the favorite skirmish games list. Later, I convinced a friend to get into it and he will be picking up the Haqqislam starter shortly.
You know, this really is one of the best-kept secrets in miniatures gaming today. Infinity has amazingly beautiful miniatures, a detailed but not TOO detailed rules set, and an interesting background. The only reason I think that there are few people playing is because so few people have heard of it. If the game had a larger US distributor and some real marketing in the US then I think it could rival Warmachine in terms of popularity. It really is that good.
I'd love to get some games in. I'm in Greenfield every weekend, so if anybody would like play, my Pan-O forces are ready to rumble. I had a really bad experience with Tim's guided missiles, so I'm thinking that I may finally need to experiment with Hacker units. But I DO so enjoy my all-out, guns blazing HMG tactics...
AH! I won't be here in the first weekend of April, however. Anime Boston has rolled around again, so a fair amount of us gamer-folk will be out and about. Still, after that, I'd love to get in a game. It's been too long.
It sounds like a lot of people will be out next weekend, but if you want to game the Sunday after that I should be able to do it.
The sunday after next sounds like an excellent time. I haven't played against Yu Jing forces, so it should be an interesting game. Thus far, I've had an excellent game against Andy's merc forces, some wonderful, suspenseful fights with Jal's tricky Ariadna commandos, had my head blown off by Alex's Nomad snipers, and had mixed success against Tim's Combine forces. Curse you, rockeeeeets!
All in all, I love Infinity. For the most part, any game between two people who know their forces will have an excellent back-and-forth feel. There's never a clear victor until the end of the game, unless Tim brings rockets (
).
Unless I proxy (and I may) I have about 125 points of dudes. Just so you know.
I'm used to 300-point games, but I bet I'd have a good time cutting it back to a small skirmish like that. It's your call. Proxy away or keep it small.
I finished painting up my Yu Jing starter set, so I'll be looking at acquiring some new units to add to my force.
Funny, I think that these minis sparked a renewed interest in painting for the sake of painting in me. I've had a real problem keeping my painting interest flowing. So I'll go days, weeks, months without doing much, then I try to get a bunch of things painted all at once - and that never works. So what I'm doing now is trying to complete a mini a day. Last week I was mostly successful. The span of a week I painted that set of minis AND got one of my new Imperial Guard veterans painted (I'm doing some minor conversions to make my vets). What I've found is that I can maintain interest in painting one minis for the time that it takes to get it painted. If I paint one mini a day I can actually get a good quantity painting in a semi-reasonable time. Not only that, the quality level increases. So instead of trying to paint 20 guys when the mood strikes and trying to get them all painted in a weekend, I'll just paint one, then another, then another on a daily basis and, at the end of a month, they should be done.
Anyway, that's a weird aside to the whole Infinity thing, but I really do think that it was these minis that brought this revelation to light for me.
I wish that I had your dedication. I was hoping to maybe do one mini per week so that I could paint my Infinity and Malifaux figures over time. I only ever managed to do one - Seamus, the Mad Hatter of Malifaux - before I wandered off to do other things. Maybe I'll have more luck over the summer.
Ok, question. I went to the site to download the rules...the lastest looked to me more like rules addendums. Only 20 pages or so.
Thus I assume to download the '2nd edition rules' posted last year?
The previous link gets you to the right place. This one should do it too:

so I figured that while people are looking at/painting/ or demoeing the game, I would introduce you to this insane table setup that someone made specifically for Infinity:

Antenociti...is freaking insane, and he does this stuff for a living too...
Corvus Belli has put together a series of tutorial videos that walk you through the basics of the game. I thought that I would post them here...
Coolness...
Antenociti is putting out clear cast minis to represent thermoptically camo'd dudes.

I got my first taste of Infinity today. Nice system... I like playing with small batches of guys. As soon as I can put it in my budget I'll be picking up a copy of the rules.
