So, did you ever suspect that a rocket-powered Owl-blimp would be such babe-magnet?

Were you more impressed with Star Trek or Terminator previews?

Was Rorschach the best actor or was it just his mask?

Did you miss the giant psychic squid, or was hating on Mr. Blue a sufficient bonding experience for you?

Overall, I was very impressed with this movie versions faithfulness and effort to convey things to an uninitiated crowd. But I suspect that watching it with a comparative eye, rather than as a totally new experience, really kind of blunted it's impact. I was hoping for something new to adapt it to today's world and didn't get that. It didn't make me think.

And then there was the poor girl behind me who apparently does not like seeing a man's butt, and so had a difficult time with 90% of the movie.

And what was up with Nixon & the old Silk Spectre's (as a retired normal woman) makeup? Had they run out of money in the budget before taping those scenes? They were like poster children for "Don't Do Botox" commercials.

Oh hell yes it is a chick magnet. I'm going to add some subtle owl conversions to my car!

I was far more impressed with the Terminator trailer. While I think it might have given up to much of what passes for plot in a Terminator movie, the music and snatches of action were perfect. The star trek trailer made the movie look like an explosion fest, which is not how I imagine star trek.

I think he really stood out. He didn't really nail the way that Rorshach talks to people until prison, but he did an excellent job. There was a bit of grumbling about casting and voices before the movie, but I have to say everybody was great. They even picked the perfect actor for Mollock.

While I miss the absurdity of the giant psychic squid, I think that the movie's 'evil' plot was seamless and much better. In this case they went for a more direct 'fear of god' angle, rather than a rally against the enemy angle. The rally against the enemy plan leaves the industrial war machine in place, the fear of god plan could do better.

I think that for those who hadn't read the comic there is a ton to think about in the movie. It is filled with careful subtext and I don't think that the original ending is any less relevant in these years of hot wars than in those years of cold wars.

Those were the only two really bad casting / costume goofs in the movie.

I've already seen the newest trek trailer, but for some reason they didn't show when I saw the film.
They DID show a new animated trailer for "UP"...when they showed the old guy going up the chair lift, all i could think of was this...so I started yodeling.

I kinda think they meant to do that. I think they wanted to make the aging look as terrible as possible to kinda of push the feelings of the elderly to the viewer...the sort of, "Ah, things were better in MY day..."

I mean heck, there is NO WAY in HECK that Nixons cartoon nose was a mistake during makeup...

In all, I LOVED this movie. I really have no complaints.

Some people didn't like the music, but I thought it worked pretty well except possibly the racy scene in the owl ship.

I thought it was VERY interesting that Veidt let Daniel touch him. In the book, it ends without a single person EVER laying a finger on him. Of course Veidt LET Dan punch him at that point, but I think the Veidt of the comic was so proud he wouldn't have done that even to placate Dan somewhat...

The little girls leg and the dogs...too obvious. Same with the confession of the guy. AND Rorchach's judgement on the guy.
I thought the comic was so much cooler in the fact that Rorshach really never had any *solid* proof...but he went and killed the guy anyways.

And the gore...far too much of it. I don't think it was needed.

Lastly, I REALLY didn't like the scene with Big Figure in the bathroom. I loved how the comic you just see him going in and Rorshach following...and thats it. No swinging door. And you just get Owl and Silk commenting on the thumping coming from inside.
And what was with the blood out from under the door? That was blood right? That was silly...shoulda just been water from an overflowing toilet where Figure's face was jammed into it...

Again, these aren't HUGE complaints...just more a purist point of view. otherwise I LOVED this movie. I'm buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD....

I missed the interaction between the kid and the Newstand Owner, the Comic, and the 2 Papers. I thought those elements did alot to tie in the story. But that's just a nitpick.

I agree with Charlie, there was more gore and sex scene then there needed to be. And I love gore and sex scenes ;) I just think they could have been edited, and given more story and character development.

In that same vein, something went awry in the character development between Nite Owl and Ms Jupiter. That's where the movie lost my wife. I didn't notice anything, but I have read the book umpteen times and knew what to expect.

Overall, I was really impressed.

I too liked the music, with one caveat. I wish they had not applied it with a sledgehammer. Sure, if you have a shocking scene of inside-out exploding Vietnamese, with a backdrop of burning jungles, you just assume blaring Jimi Hendrix. But when I watch two people sit down to a nervous dinner, I don't expect to be jarred back to the movie theatre by two or three lines from Nena Hagen. Like they were going for the "Remember to Buy the Awesome Soundtrack, Kids!" plan. Each time they played a song I liked, I momentarily (and intentionally, I think) thought "oh yeah, cool song." It felt forced. Hallelu-ya!! [cue flame-thrower] I like it better when the music just blends in, hardly noticed.[/quote]

YES! Thats what bugged me about it...I couldn't put it into words...

Apparently they chose most of the music because the comic actually quotes those actual songs (or at least some of them) at the end of each chapter? I havn't had a chance to check.

I missed the way you can have multiple stories all going on a the same time, in the same frame, as you can in a comic.
