The monster boosters have just that...a random monster. Those are basically for those who want to collect all the monsters without having to buy more starter boxes (which have both units and a monster as well as dice a map to play on, etc etc).

The two versions are neccessary. After gorghadra dies (or if you pay power dice during a game) he turns into mega gorghadra which is slightly tougher.

To properly play the game, you'll want some units now. You can play with up to 15 units, although you don't really need that many...you can make do with much less.

The Unit boosters...have units! I'd say buy 1 or 2.

With the number of people playing, you shouldn't have a problem doing some simple trades to get some "Planet Killer" units (look for the same color scheme as Gorg). I definitely suggest getting some Emohawks. UGLY with a captial UG.

And the collecting part of the game isn't as bad as first thought. There really isn't much common/uncommon/rare stuff to worry about. Even the rare stuff tends to be only slightly better (so in other words, anyone will be fine with just common pieces). So I can't see the trading aspect being as insane as Magic the gathering or other CCGs/CMGs

As for playing the game itself. Its pretty cool. Its not super amazing like WM/Hordes in my opinion, but its still cool.
Its not as crazy as WM or hordes...a little more oriented towards a younger crowd I think...not as much deep thought and planning involved.
There is a little bit of synergy, but mostly its just a matter of getting your monsters into hand to hand and beating the snot out of each other.

In short, I see it as a game thats a little more chill and less intense. You can show it to your young nephew/niece and they'll have a good time. You can play it at the store and have a quick game while waiting for your friends to arrive. You can play a quick game if you bored of your other games, etc.

Some people will want to collect everything...me, I just want to get enough for two 'armies' and be done (since I'll be doing demos and whatnot).
YOU could easily get away with just a single monster and a small handful of units.

and I'm not sure what I think yet.

The models look nice, but I wish there was more variety in the packs. I bought a Monster Booster and go two versions of the same guy. It was Gorghadra and Ultra Gorghadra. The game itself doesn't seem too complicated, but I would like to know how much it actually gets played before I invest in it.

BIZZAP FOOL!
