Didja know?

Ice skates work by compressing the ice below the blade and thus melting it. The skater actually glides over a tiny layer of water.

So skating is actually a form of hydroplaning on a very small scale.

hmmm, i would have thought that the friction of the metal and the ice would be causing the ice to melt, thus the gliding effect
