Now the question is what do we want to do?

Daniel said it might be neat to do a MK2 demo day.  problem is, will that really attract anyone to come to the store?  Maybe if we had some sort of mini-tournament?  How about a 1-1-1-1 stampede?

Mr Broga still wants a 750 hardcore (I think Daniel was interested too)...

Any one else have any ideas?

How about:

All jacks/beasts, 750 or 1000, because you can cram about 4 or 5 heavies into that kind of list and you don't get bogged down with alot of units and solos, and you can make it hardcore(lite) no problem or...

How about some kind of special rule which allows two casters/locks in an army of 750 or less or...

How about that worst list idea that was thought of before but we never got around to play.  Build an army, switch with your opponent and try to beat your own army or...

???????

1-1-1-1 is always fun.

750 Hardcore would be my preference.

Really, I just want to play. Even a standard 500 point Stampede, which is easy and fluid, would make me happy. Whatever we think will get the most players in the store is fine by me. Simpler the better, as we have a lot of players who haven't come to the more "creative" events.

Honestly, I'm most excited for (Late) Summer Rampage!

Hardcore/timed turns with MkII would be disasterous, I think.

Whatever format, it should be really simple for those who have not tried any MkII yet. Simple, easy and limited so talking through all the changes and referencing new cards/stats won't hold things up too much. I could see incrementally growing matches, say, first round: one Warcaster & one Warjack, second round: add a solo and third round add a unit.

Remember MKII does not include Hordes.

I know MKII is not for Hordes but why have a demo day in June for something people cannot play with until January.  Why show possible new players how to use the MKII rules, that are not yet set in stone, and then tell them "Yeah you can't really play this way right now because these rules/stat cards are not finished/offical yet."   If the demo day was in October or later, I would say go for it since we would have to start to get ready to play by those rules in a few months but now seems too far away to worry about how to play MKII.

I say we keep the tournaments for at least the summer MKI so both Hordes and Warmachine players can play.  Besides I have been trying out some new combos with my Circle and am really itching to give them a shot in a tournament especially with the Shadowhorn Satyr just out and Megalith and Moshar coming out in the next two months.  Of course at some point in time I have to get my hands of Brun & Lug and WrongEye & Snapjaw.

Ok, lets make it a 750 hardcore lite.  I think if the store opens earlyish we should be fine for time considering how fast the 500 tourneys went...

We'll be arriving around 10am and planning to start at 11am. Yes, that's earlier than we're normally open on Sunday.

And, yeah $5 entry, or $3 if you're fully painted covers all sorts of prizey-goodness.

Oh, and Broga, you don't need a comma after an exclamation mark. The mark indicates the end of a sentence, whereas the comma is more of a pause within a sentence. However, the lack of capitalization following the comma does concern me. One is led to wonder if perhaps the exclamation marks are the extraneous, unintended punctuation. At which point, however, if that is the case, your sentence really starts to get ugly, and I, truly gramatically befuddled. l0lz

Yeah, so $5 entry fee.  $3 if your army is fully painted.

750 points, Warmachine and Hordes can play.  Only 1 list, and caster kill scenario only.

Turn lengths will be 10 minutes to account for bigger armies.  Overall game length...um, I'm thinking 80 minutes plus a random amount (normally its 70).

We'll have the standard gold card certificate prizes, plus pehaps a little something extra like a t-shirt, or perhaps a blister or something.

And of course store credit.

If we're doing 10-minute Turns, we might as well just do lite! Boo!

Hardcore is 750, 7-minute turns!

Well, I guess I'll play ;p

I think I'll agree with John, too. While it would be wicked cool to do a "Mk II" day, it really would only benifit those of us who are crazy enough to care about proto-type rules and unpolished stats. If we planned for a "just before release" MK II day we'd be able to intigrate the rest of the community much more.

Wait, you want 7 minute turns in a 750 game?

You really ARE hardcore.

The entire point of Hardcore is to ensure that players can capitalize on their opponent's mistakes, it supports the premise that you're playing against your opponent and not against their army choice. 7 minute turns at 500 lead to some interesting models on the field, but when it comes down to it, it isn't difficult to play infantrymachine/I have answers for everything.

If you limit turns to 7 minutes, you create a situation in which Army Building is tempered by both net gain/loss as well as adding in a consideration on time vs. return. I mean, I could take both Trenchers and Long Gunners to the table, but I doubt I would pass the time vs. return test. On the other hand, it encourages players to bring 'casters like eNemo and Darius, who can get a lot of milage out of a small number of figures.

I'll play regardless, but I do believe that 7 minute turns would be "more hardcore."

I am fine with 7 minute turns but either way makes no difference to me.

I played a semi-Hardcore with Antonio two weeks ago, 1000 point game with 10 minute turns, and I would be nice and let him know when it was around 5 minutes, 3 minutes and 1 minute and there was still times when he could get it all done.  Of course he was playing with a unit of trenchers, long gunners, cavalry and a good number of solos.  Playing with the Thunderhead was also a killer of his time since he had to make attack and damage rolls for each model in it's range.  It didn't really matter though, I was using Morvahna the Autumnblade and I kept spending the fury to bring back any of the Druids of Orboros that he would kill with her Regrowth spell.  It was funny.

"What you can bring back all four of those model????"

"Yep, one fury for upkeep and four more to bring them back to life.  And she still has two fury leftover."

Question for you Charlie, can a frenzied warbeast still do it's chain attack?

Argh...the PP site is down and "under construction" so I can't check the FAQs on that.

Hmmm...My gut tells me no, since a frenzied beast can't make special attacks.  Even though a chain attack isn't a special attack per se, I think the point of the frenzy is the beast isn't thinking about making a specialized chain attack...he just wants to smash things with his bare hands.

On the other hand, I can see where its a definite possibility.

And I'l give the 7 minute turns some thought...

So any idea on how long the turns will be 7 or 10?  Believe it or not but three extra minutes a turn does affect an army list.  It is the difference between a unit or a warjack/beast, well not literally but you get the idea.  Less time = Less Models if you want to use all your model every turn.

All work and no play makes Daniel a bull boy.

No. Seriously. It looks like I have to be in the office Sunday to run an event. Unfortunately, that means no two-handed throws. :(

Actually...are we going to have enough people to make this worthwhile?

Mark and Dan are off the list.  Do we know of anyone else who's coming?

Hmm, Chris is fairly certain for the yes column. I think the John/Rena/Antonio contingent are really the deciding factor. Any word there?

Wow....well that was alot more people than I expected!  I thought I was going to have to scrap it...

The 750 hardcore was fun, but I think it was a little overwhelming for the newer players, so next time we're going to do something a bit smaller.

Thank you everyone for coming!

Oh, I forgot to mention we officially named that event "A Day of Mediocricy".

(I know the word is supposed to be spelt "mediocrity" but I liked the 'magic' connotations with the cricy...sort of like NercomanCY, OineromanCY, etc.

Anyhoo, I called it that because for the first TWO ROUNDS there wasn't a single caster kill.  No one.  ALL DRAW GAMES!!!!! (which count as losses)

There were 3 kills in the third round.   John, Chris, and myself.  Chris had the most VPs though.

Two Khador, Two Cygnar, Two Troll, and one each of Menoth and Legion.  It was pretty good even with the mistake in game totals Someone, who shall remain nameless  seth told some of the other players the game was only 500 points instead of 750.  But thanks to Tim we manage to get everyone up to the right game totals.

Perhaps for next time I may pull out the good old mercs again for the next tournament or Circle though I might wait til I get my hands on Moshar the Desertwalker before I use Circle again.  But for next time I want to sink my swords into some blighted flesh which was the only army I didn't get a crack at in the last tournament.

Bizarre. I don't even recall talking about this tournament with you. Perhaps we were looking at May's event. Both of them had kind of drawn out descriptions over multiple posts. I admittedly sometimes have a hard time promoting or advertising them to people who aren't following the conversation here.

Actually, it was three other players that showed up with smaller point armies.  But it wasn't a real problem.  Just in case it happens again, I am going to try to and bring some extra mercs & minions with me, mostly just those that will work for all factions or at least most of them like Bokurs & Pirates.  Not much maybe just 4 or 5 solos and a unit or two.

Ahh! The Shippee contingent! I would tell them my mother was officiating in a two-piece if I thought it would help to get them find time for some organized play!!   Heck. If I'd known they needed Khador/mercs I'd make some of my stuff out back available.
