Free RPG Day June 20

I just wanted to take a moment to remind our local RPG players that the 20th of this month will be FREE RPG DAY. That is a day that you can come in, pick up some free RPG-related coolness, and even play in some RPG events. The full details as to the days activities will be made available in the coming days. One of the things that I'm excited about is the new introductory adventure for Rogue Trader that will be available on that day...

I've been looking over the adventure. Don't worry, I have no plans on spoiling it for anybody, but I do want to share a couple of insights about the game.

First, I was wondering if it was going to be more of a 40K Star Trek or 40K Traveller-like game. Based on this adventure, the latter appears to be true. But even that isn't necessarily a fair comparison. In Traveller you tended to be a rag-tag bunch of misfits in a ship that was in hock up to your ears as you tried to eek out an existence in the Imperium. In Rogue Trader you are the command crew of a HUGE ship with 10s (if not 100s) of thousands of support crew. You are apparently still trying to eek out an existance... but it's a much bigger thing. You won't be counting your pennies so much I don't think.

The system appears to be effectively identical to that in Dark Heresy. We'll have to wait until the full game comes out to see how close they really are though.

The rest of the stuff that is being given away at FREE RPG DAY is pretty high quality as well though there seems to be fewer items overall. That's okay, though. There's some really good stuff to be had - including a new intro adventure for the next White Wolf setting.
