Excelsior!

"Pizza, Grinders, Cosmic Powers"

Yes, it has bizarre comic book geek theme to the menu that is far comic book geeky-er than me.

New Pizza place, where Pallazzo was, where Monster was before that, on Federal Street opened yesterday. I'm eating "The Gambit" pizza right now. Yum! Blue Cheese Base (which I guess means sort of an inner sauce, rather than chunks) BBQ chicken chunks (sweeter bbq, not quite vinegary enough for me, but not too spicy-hot, so good) and spicy peppeers (the large green type, in ring slices, again not too hot at all.) The peppers are not overly hot like some like, but distinctly add some needed zest to the flavor.

Overall, a lot more flavor than their location's predecesor. I'd say the sauce & cheese are a little too sweet & less spicy (spicy as in herbs and spices) than I like in general, but with a healthy dose from my spice grinders and Franks Hot Sauce (see: Best slightly spicy Vinegar Sauce evar!) all is good in my belly.  Delivery time was fine, and free plus the assumed tip made for a reasonable, typical price for a local pizza place.

I would recommend trying it, and will take Andrea so we can experiment with some of the other oferings. Overall I would say it is a good addition to Greenfield, if not the most new and exciting. Lets face it, the only thing we have more of than pizza places is hair & nail salons.

....ah, and an update. Sadly, these days, a sign of a good pizza for me is if my stomache is aching somewhat after...like from a Village Pizza grease bomb...and I can feel the burn coming on.  Mmm...fat = flavor.

So now the story goes: Monster, Pallazzo, Excelsior, "Another Pizza Place!"

Out with the superhero flavors, in with...lots of construction so far as I can tell. I'm thinking bad location or perhaps we have enough pizza in a city of 20k.

Domino's. Athens. Village. Antonios. Goodies. Robertos. And now Mag Pie & this new one. And then you have the part-time/also sells hot pizza sometimes: Greenfield's Market & Big Y. Any others?

I guess 1 full time pizza place for every 2500 people is not that bad. And really, Mag Pie is really not a pizza joint by any means. It's sells brick oven pies shaped like pizza with some traditional ingredients of pizza. But it ain't no greasy tomato sauce laden Greek/Italian decor, two kinds of beer ("Mostly Water" & "Mostly Water Light") place. I happen to like the greasy tomato laden places, so Bank Row is now a gauntlet of temptation every night I walk home.
