The Rumors have been floating around for almost a year but GW finally revealed that Space Hulk is indeed coming back... for a limited time... in about three weeks.

Why did they wait so long to announce it? Probably to add a sense of urgency to the whole process. Personally, I don't think that kind of manufactured urgency was necessary. It's been WAY too long since this game last saw print and a lot of folks (present company included) are very excited about getting their hands on this game again.

Having said that the urgency is manufactured doesn't change the fact that this is going to be a limited release. How limited? Who knows. The fact remains that there is a chance that if you don't jump in early that you won't be able to jump in at all. So... if you're a GG customer PLEASE let us know RIGHT AWAY if you're going to want us to set aside a copy for you. Seriously. Do it right now.

Why are you still reading this?

Oh, well, perhaps you want some details. Okay, we can do that.

Space Hulk is a board game for two players, recreating the battles fought between the Space Marines and Genestealers. One player commands the Space Marines as they carry out deadly missions in the ancient Space Hulk, and the other commands the horde of Genestealers opposing them. Space Hulk's fast-paced rules simulate the tense atmosphere of a mission deep inside the cramped confines of a derelict space hulk, where split-second decisions are needed for victory.

This boxed game contains: a 23-page Rulebook, a 47-page Mission book and 35 finely-detailed, plastic Citadel miniatures, including: 11 Space Marine Terminators, one Space Marine Terminator Librarian, 22 Genestealers, and one Broodlord.

Also included are: 105 gaming counters, 24 corridors, 10 rooms, eight crossroads, eight T-junctions, six corner sections, four dead ends, four end pieces, 20 doors with plastic stands, one mission status display, and three plastic mission objectives, including: a dead Space Marine on throne, a Blood Angels artefact and a Cyber-Altered Task Unit. Plus a sand timer and five bone-coloured dice unique to this game.

MSRP? $100

If you've never played the game before, let me tell you that it's one of the best designs (right up there with Blood Bowl) ever to come from the minds of GW. It's a tense boardgame that will make you think of the movie ALIENS as you're playing it. The Marines never seem to have enough resources and the Genestealers just keep coming. Using good strategy really pays off for both players - though the Genestealer player has an easier time of it from the beginning.

Okay, NOW go tell Seth that you're going to want a copy.

Very nice!  Anyone who doesn't have a copy of Space Hulk already should really pick one of these up.  I've had hours and hours of fun playing this over the past two decades.

If anyone wants to play a few games to see what it's like, let me know!

On a side note, Jay, do you know if this uses the second edition SH rules or have they modified them a little more?  The "Brood Lord" looks to be a new edition...

Nothing that I've seen says one way or the other about the rules. If they've changed them they haven't changed them much, I'm sure. The game is damn-near perfect as is.

Of course, they did add cool stuff like the guy on the throne here:

Holy Krapton! Is that Sanguinius or was the Emperor briefly a Blood Angel or are these pre-painted even? Oh this has gotten far more exciting.

The description from the parts list I saw said that this guy is something like "Dead Marine on Throne." I'm sure that nothing is prepainted.

I love the fact that these minis all seem to be specific to this game. They COULD have just pulled all of the pieces off of the shelf and added in the hallway bits but this package seems to be a class act from back to front.

Ah, yes. Now I see that I was seeing potential rather than actual. Especially if these are to GW scale, that guy just became the coolest objective marker in 40K, in my book.

And yes, having new game-specific pieces is a very nice touch. I made sure to thank our GW rep for not simply selling all of these at GenCon and Gamesday. Potentially passing up a lot of dollars in support of the FLGS model.

Blake, the current rumors are running towards "more like 1st edition with stuff from the expansions than 2nd edition." Just thought that you'd want to know.

One thing that I noticed in this image (and now that I mention it, the one above as well) is that the floor tiles are not only beautifully rendered, but they're also embossed to add that extra bit of the third dimension to them. This keeps looking better and better!

Advanced copy is in the store! There are about 4-6 as yet unspoken for that we know we're getting.

If I can get all the little bits together people can try it out. The parts are designed to all snap together without glue. Sadly the pegs that slot toether are the most likely to snap off. So a spot of glue is working out well.

Played four games of Space Hulk with Tim today. Two games of scenario 1 (Suicide Mission) two games of Scenario 2 - alternating sides with each scenario. Neither one of us could win Suicide Mission with the Marines. Tim was able to win Scenario 2 with the marines. In fact, he destroyed me. It could have been the fact that he seemed to be able to roll sixes with unnatural regularity.

Great game! Every bit as good as I remembered even though a few of the rules have been tweeked.

I just wanted to point out a couple of facts for those of you thinking about getting Space Hulk.

We still have copies left ... at the original retail price.

You can't buy them at the original retail price on eBay.

That's right. The price of the game is already reaching collector status on eBay since GW has run out of the print run of the game and the only copies are those currently on the shelves now. If you don't get it soon you won't get it without paying a premium for it.

I expect that our copies will last a couple more months (possibly) but as people start scrambling around looking for places to buy them for less than the eBay premium price they'll discover our cache and it will disappear. So get your copy soon.

This has been a public service announcement.
