SWM maps?

I have a question for folks. Normal Star Wars Miniatures rules call for each player to bring a map to go along with their squad (the theory being that it's a map that your squad will do well on) and the winner of the first roll-off of the match gets to choose their map. Would this be something folks would be interested in trying out? At least for our biweekly DCI nights?

I know there are some players who don't have a selection of maps, but the Attack on Endor pack includes three legal maps; one 200 point map (Rancor Pit) and two 100/150 maps (Jedi Temple & Ravaged Base).

Thoughts? Comments?

Also on the subject of maps, I'm probably gonna get some custom maps off 'teh intraweb' in the near future. Would folks be keen on playing some tourneys on them? (No, they're not DCI so they wouldn't be used on those weeks. Yes, they'd be for everyone to play on not just me.)

I liked the custom one we played on in Chicopee. Wish I could remember which one it was.

That was Nar Shadda, the vertical city. I've had a copy of that one bouncing around my bag for a while now but we haven't been playing custom maps in the tournies. It's one of my favorites for small games (100, maybe 150).

I also want to snag the ruined base, which is great for 200 pointers and is excellent for being huge friendly without being non-huge unfriendly...

Blake if you get the new SWMiniManager it has Nar Shadda, Jaba's Palace, and Echo Base... I think I have some other ones on my computer

So, um... I'm guessing that nobody is really interested in A) bringing a map along with your squad and B) playing non-WotC maps on non-DCI nights?

I got no problem with using some custom maps and I like the idea of everyone bring their own maps. That way you don't have to hear everyone say that they got stuck on the same map. With everyone bringing their own map they can pick the perfect map for their squad.

I like the idea of everyone bringing thier own map, but I'm thinking about the little ones who can't even remember to bring thier own damage counters. As for non-WotC map, great let's use them. It will add a little variety to games.

Maybe they'll learn to remember to bring a map after a few weeks of always playing on the map thier opponant picked to go with thier squad.
