World of Warcraft?
So Tim and I started playing World of Warcraft on a trial subscription (read:Free) and got to test it out for 10 days. I must say that I was totally impressed. This was the first MMORPG I've played and I was initially put off by the mechanical nature of the thing (by mechanical I mean "Talk to guy, get quest, travel to location, kill bad guy(s), go back to guy, get loot and experience, repeat"). Then, I realized how HUGE the world was and how cool it was that even though it was artificial in some ways it was really alive in others.
At one point I couldn't figure out how to complete one of my quests. There was a high-level player nearby that I decided to ask for help. He spent about half and hour going back and forth to various locations, keeping me alive and answering questions. It was fantastic. He didn't ask anything of me and he wasn't a jerk (as an aside, there's no lack of jerks in the game). It was a great experience. As was the first time that I fly on the back of a Manticore from one city to another. Or the time that Erik and I climbed to the top of a mountain and looked down on a dark and foreboding forest. It was magnificent. And at the same time, it still has its problems if you're looking for a true "roleplaying" experience. I think that this article points out the problems nicely. Still, it's an engauging experience even if it isn't "real" roleplaying and I think that Tim and I will probably pick up the game and continue on with it.
Well, we did get it. Now the whole family is playing. And I do mean the WHOLE family (including both cats and the parrot).
Didn't know you guys had a parrot...what kind? I'm a big fan of exotics pets. I have two sun conures myself...among the noisiest of my children.
And then I have the two snakes, the lizard, the tortoise, the giant millipede, the frog, etc etc....
We have a Blue and Gold Macaw named Cody. He's a noisy bugger as well. He's also sweet and cuddly when he'd not trying to chew off my fingers.
Very nice. I've always wanted a hyacinth macaw myself :) Or maybe an umbrella cockatoo....
Where do you have his cage set up? That can make a difference if you want a quieter household :)
For example, sun conures are among the loudest and noisiest hookbills on the planet, yet my two are very well behaved and relatively quiet because I have them set up in the living room so they are always near me.
Do you consider yourself very knowledgeable on birds? Cuz if you want, I can loan you a book I have by Sally Blanchard. Its a fantastic book which helped me curb my kids behavior problems: biting, screeching, etc etc...

Not so knowledgeable that I wouldn't want to read your book. I used to keep birds when I was a kid and always wanted a large parrot but never had one. So my experience in limited.
*shakes his fist* Darn you all!!! Why did everyone have to decide to play World of Warcraft??? Peer pressure was too overwhelming and I had to make the purchase!
I've only been playing it for less than a day. I'm a level 8 or 9 Undead Warlock on the Terenas server. Whoopade doo
I know the feeling. I'm still wanting to get Dawn of War myself. I personalyl don't think I'll ever play an online game lik Evercrack or World of Warcraft. I just dont like the idea of continuing to pay money to play my game.
What also helps curb the peer pressure is I have an outdated laptop that none of the new games would run on...so it'd be pointless to buy them :)
-Freeeeedoooooommmmmm!-
I'll be getting it in a few weeks. We have a family easter party tomorrow *groan* there'l be my 22 aunts and uncles 27 cousins, with their significant others, and all twelve of my great-cousins. I'll be hiding somewhere in back with the few people who don't like sports.
I was watching zack play on saturday and it looks really cool. Can ! of u guys tell me what the requirements for what it needs as of ram and grafics and stuff. GHAAAA must upgrade computer. Zack gave me a basic idea but i need to know specifics before going crazy.
Hi Jay, Tim, and Eric.
I regret to inform you that I won't be able to make good on my promise of mechanical squirrels for you, as Horde can't mail anything to Alliance players and my engineer is a Troll. If you guys ever decide to take a walk on the dark side on that server, send Skeezix a /tell and I'll hook you up with bombs and squirrels.
Ah. no problem.
Tim will need to post his own info but just so you (or realy anybody else) know what my current list of characters looks like - here they are:
On Bonechewer:
Bahramewe - Tauren Hunter - 24th lvl
On Dalaran:
Wavia - Human Paladin - 5th Lvl
Sporky - Gnome Rogue - 6th Lvl
Feel free to let me know when you're on.
Sure i will, it'l still be a few weeks because i need to run up to the mall to get it.

Not to mention get online with it and download the redicilously large updates before you can even play. If you are on dialup, you better get someone else to get the patches and updates for you unless you want to spend a good day minimum downloading updates.
Cool i"ll keep that in mind
I know that this is a bit late on the topic considering this is quite an old thread, but my info is
Bonechewer:
43 orc warlock
Dalaran:
16 human paladin
and i play all the freakin time now
as long as you get your homework and chores done...
We have a new crew who gets together for games on Wednesday night. Generally around 9pm.
Server: Dalaran
Guild: The Super Adventure Team
Right now you have to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 16-18th level (I'm not sure what next week's cap is) but if you just want to join the guild then put Sporky, Surlyjoe, Cnaeus, or Sylaina on your friends list and be sure to ask them if you can join if you see them online.
Hey, WoWsters. You've probably all seen this, as it's a link from Penny Arcade, which I assume is read religiously by almost everyone. If you somehow lissed it, tho, check this out:
I'm probably getting WoW tonight (and so I decend into darkness), so what servers do you guys play on?
Right now we're (my family) are playing mainly on two different servers. Bonechewer (PVP) and Dalaran (PVE). We have a guild called "Super Adventure Team" on Dalaran and that group gets together on Thursday nights and plays together. If you create a character on Dalaran we can hook you up with the guild and get you playing right away.
Oh, you'd have to be Alliance... which would mean you could be a dwarf.

You know, since one of my friends regained my interest in the game once again, I have reactivated my account. I will have to delete one of my Dalaran characters to create a new one on the alliance side and start playing with you guys on Thursday evenings. (Note that according to the Server list, Dalaran is full, but I have been able to create new characters on servers that claim they are full).
I'll get started on a Dwarf posthaste.
So I've made a Human Paladin (i'm only up to like level 6 or so right now). I was going to do Dwarf Hunter, but for some reason I hate guns in WoW. Anywho! The character name is Thomus.
I've got a Dwarf warrior up to lvl 7 named Gripnir, currently milling around Kharanos.
The regular Thursday-night crew is up to a level cap of 19-21 for next week so if you want to participate you'll have to power-level yourself up there.
Or, we can just start a second group.
What time do you guys normally play? Make sure that you put:
Surlyjoe
Sporky
Cnaeus
Thallia
Ameril
Clora
Sylaina
Katrinna
Well, one or more of them on your friends list, then ask them for admittance to the guild if they come online. The first two are my characters.
I'm on and off all throughout the day, I tried to be on around 9 last night, and i was directed towards you about the guild, but I hadn't gotten a response, I just figured it was a busy time.
As far as power leveling, I might be able to spend some time on the weekend here doing that, or at least I'll try to :)
I'm on alot of the time currently, most of my nights (also around 9) are spent on.
Its hard as hell to level with my warrior, but I'll start grinding to the best of my ability.
Or I might just start a Dwarf rogue. I'll figure it out eventually. :P
Yeah, Thursday was pretty crazy what with us getting killed in the Deadmines and all.
I'll try to get on in the evenings this week.
My wife (with her character Ameril) will be playing this Thursday night.

Joooooin uuuuuuus...
Just don't expect to sleep much after the install.
I just got it a little over a week ago and have been actually GETTING UP EARLY so I can play for a little while before work. I normally wouldn't get up early for anything less than the bed being engulfed in flames.
