Full Thrust....and more free games!
Some of the folks at the store wanted to know where to find the Full Thrust rules. I was actually wrong about the website. It wasn't a dot com, but a dot net:

But in addition, I actually found a website dedicated to TONS of old games that are out of print but free for the public.

You guys played?
Cool! I can't wait to get back...
When you comin back dude? I'm up for a game or two. Heck, we could feasibly have LOTS of players in one game. Each person could have like 1-3 ships...the game is actually pretty stremlined to be able to handle like 10 people...
I have to say, after watching Charlie and Seths game Full thrust has me intrigued. The movement system is really interesting, and the ability to spec out your own ships is really cool. The fact that the ships become so hard to control when the engines are hit is really cool.
I was all set to use my starwars ships for this game, but Charlies completely awesome looking homebuilt spaceships look so much better. I love the look of the desicant powered capital ship and the ships with the cannons straped on the side.
I really like the idea of running a Battlestar Galatica mini campaign. One player could have a big capital ship (the battlestar) and some beefy fighters (vipers!) and the other player would get lots of low quality ships (psilon raiders, which aren't low quality, but they don't seem to be much of a threat on their own). Add in a couple of objectives and you'd have a fun weekend or two. Missions could be to defend some civilian ships, 'scan' a target and jump out without getting destroyed, full on battle, etc.
I love the thought of some speedy needler fighters (die engines die!), or a bunch of missile boats.
Personally, I'd want to use my collection of Babylon 5 ships to play...

We can order these for anybody else who might be interested.
I have always loved fleet action games. Free ones are even better(though I feel the need to some how pay for my time at Griffon)
I had a deep love for Babylon 5 Wars dispite the fact that is was broken, slow and had way to much book keeping. But any game that lets me shoot missles down on the way to their target while engaging in massive broadside combat is fun.
A Battlestar game would be neat, though the ships dont really move that much. Its mostly a standing battle of who can wear down the othersides fighter screen. Then the missles and nukes. Though I guess you could have more than one Battlestar.
The momement system in full thrust looked ok. Nothing compaired to the B5 wars movements system which required fractions and planning up to 5 turns in advance. The ships were also cool. Ill have to look at building your own ship, maybe a Basestar with 250 fighters that can shoot worth beans.

Well, I'm personally not a big fan of the 'advanced' fighters that you find in the More Thrust book. The majority of the stuff in that book starts to just bog things down...
Maybe as something special though...

I've been looking at those myself...not to mentions tons of other stuff...starblazaers, startrek, etc etc....
Got a bunch of Silent Death ships up in my attic. They look similar to the ones the Full Thrust ppl were offering. Planning to get up there and bring 'em in. Even though the BF Gothic stuff looks cooler (as well as Charlies.)
I think it'd be cool if the big ships, rather than having less speed/turning options, would only be able to make maneuver decisions every other turn or so. But that's after playing once, with paired down rules.
Mmmm...speaking of Mogoose Press....We're looking into Battlefield Evolution. Anybody get a chance to get a look at this game yet?
I tend to be a "purist" when it comes to my miniature games. I don't want to fight my GW Space Marines against your Starship Troopers minis so much. But, for some reason, I'm thinking of this idea of playing this strange mashup of Star Wars vs Babylon 5 vs Silent Death vs Home Made as particularly compelling...

I was thinking the same thing. I really like having the minis for warmachine, enough that I've sunk way more money and time into them than I probably should have. In this case, however, just imagine that each player represents a different race. It would make complete sense that the ships would look nothing alike besides having something that looked vaguely like engines and weapons. Granted plastic prepainted against pewter hand painted is going to be a little jarring with all of the scale and detail differences.
What do you think of the quality of the B5 minis? How did they paint up? Maybe after I've played the game a few times and decided if I like it I'll order up some earth alliance ships.

Haven't really looked at the rules yet or the advanced fighters of which you speak (need some time alone with the company laser printer). I was just thinking about what I would want to make given the options that I've heard people talking about. I was just suggesting that a battlestar galatica themed game should be a small elite force on the side of the humans and a large low quality swarm on the side of the toasters. I'd probably give the toasters more points and add 'escape' to the list of objectives for the humans.

In the episodes that focus on the fighters you see the a lot of manuevering. When they are just using the incoming raiders as a plot device it is just a lot of static shots of a huge wall of ships not really doing much. Considering that the major advantage that the vipers have is their greater manueverability (and being controled by highly trained intuitive brains) I can't imagine the fighter combat being at long range. Imagine the combat more like the episode where they are hunting Scar, or the episode where they need to destroy the refinery.

Well in general, fighters just have basic weaponry similar to the typical ship weaponry (C class guns). The Needle beams can only be used on larger vessels...escorts, cruisers and capital ships. However I could see how a pile of Neddler escorts woul be a REAL pain in the butt.
The only problem with needle guns is you HAVE to roll a 6 to hit the targeted system. Otherwise they don't do anything.
So in that case you'd want as many shots as you could to make it worth while.

Overall, VERY nice. There should be a painted example of one of the EA capital ships in one of those glass cases in the back of the store. Take a look and judge for yourself.
Ah, ok. Like I said, I haven't checked out the rules yet. I had visions of evil little ships swarming around crippling the opponents engines and then slowly picking them apart from the rear. It would be the ultimate dirty vulture tactic, so naturally that is what I would gravitate towards.
Regardless...
Pew pew pew!
I'm making explitives over here :)

Is this some kind of way of saying that you need to change your underpants? :D
(more expletives)
No it means I'm doing this:
LOL!!!!!

Full Thrust was fun! I'm going to need to check out ship building, and chase you off again!
As for free out of print games. That just can't be good! I suggest everyone avoid those. You never know what you can catch from an old game.
