Painting Night: The Return!
If you skip past the front page of the website and just come straight here then you might have missed the announcement that we're bringing back painting night.
Painting Night was never formal or regular. It's still going to be pretty informal, but we are going to try to make it a monthly event. Not everybody (especially myself) can commit to a weekly event but Monthly should be regular enough to make it useful but not so often that it gets to be a burden.
My main reason for wanting to do it is because I generally have a LOT of fun at these things. Although I will probably bring some stuff to work on, what I really want to do is help others to improve their painting, learn new techniques, or just inspire people to get their stuff painted.
I'm planning to bring in the new set of Foundation paints from GW so that you can all give them a try (if you're interested). I've found that they cover really well - as advertised.
Andy Easton is going to be there to help with your modeling questions. He's a far better modeler than I am and should be able to help a lot with your cutting, pinning, and repositioning questions.
Mostly, the idea is to get together, paint and have fun. Bring a bunch of stuff to work on, or just that one project that you need to finish. Bring your questions. Learn new stuff! It doesn't matter what level you paint at you should be able to get something out of coming.
Neato, I'll have to try an get Monday nights free with the Hadley store. There's several Serials worth of Pulp minis I have unpainted.
This is a monthly thing, not weekly so it shouldn't be so hard to miss whatever your regular Monday-night thing may be.
Oh, and I hope to see you tonight.
The turnout wasn't too bad for less than a week's notice. It was Andy, Seth, Tim, Dan and Myself. Okay, Dan didn't paint anything...
Everybody was productive. Seth was assembling his K'Door minis, Tim worked on his Cygnar, Andy worked on his Pirates, I put the final touches on my Imperial Guard Sentinel and started a new Warcaster for my Cryx.
The foundation paints were in the center of the table for everybody to try and I got Tim and Andy to check out the Vallejo Model Color: Smoke for a bit of washing.
A good time was had by all.
It's really a worthwhile event if you're looking for an excuse to get some work done. The next one will be June 11th or the 18th. Does anybody have a preference?
- Jay
I'd love to come in, but mondays are really tough for me
Well I'll be moved back into town come June. I should be able to show up for the next one. Here's a link to some of the guys I'll be painting up.

Awesome!
I love Copplestone's stuff.
I could try for the 18th... I'm pretty sure our last day of Finals is the 15th. I haven't picked up a brush in months (Errm... July of 2006?), let alone play WH40K, but I've been wanting to start again. Silly school, interfering in our entertainment.
Any chance you might consider carrying a bit of Copplestone and Pulp Figures.

I'm considering putting together a Pulp Minis ruleset using a modified version of the Supersystem.

They aren't available through our distributors and, frankly, we've had little luck carrying miniature lines that aren't connected to a specific game with the exception of Reaper.
Too bad, good thing I can direct order a few of them then.

Just a reminder. Tonight's Painting Night. Starting at six and going to whenever (last one wrapped up at around 8.)
I think I'll be assembling my new Uberwolf!!
Painting Night - July 9th.
It would normally be the following week but it turns out that I'll be out of town that day so I'm moving it up to the 9th.
Seth, change the date in the calendar and if you see Andy, let him know.
I wish I could join you guys tonight...but no luck.
So here is a question:
How do I paint something to look like ice?
hmm....well the most ice painting ive ever seen was an article I read.
This guy made a board for his IG Valhallans. The big project was a frozen lake. I think he used either resin or clear hot glue (alot of it lol ), and then drybrushed white for a snow affect...
That probubly dosent help answer your question much,
so sry.... ?
Do you want clear or frosty ice?
Well, I'm trying to come up with some way to paint my Winter Troll...so probably a frosty ice...
Here's a Snow Basing article from Cool Mini or Not:

And a neat melted snow base:

And one more nice looking snow one:

Unfortunately, I haven't found a good tutorial on Ice.
I've used the baking soda method before. Worked really well.
But I'm not interesting in a snowy base...I want a bumble!

You're on your own. That's some 733+ modelling skills, beyond me.
Oh well...I guess I'll have to stick with lots of blue-greys and white
Tonight is painting night!
Come in whenever you like and start painting. We'll probably be sticking around until at least 9pm or so.
I may actually make it for some good ole' down-to-the-wire speedpainting!
So if I came into painting night, would it be against the rules to get a game in if someone was willing? :)
Also, do we need to bring our own paints and whatnot?
I close the store on Mondays so I might be able to come in in the evening for painting and maybe a game or two...
Generally speaking, I don't care if people (that I like) game during painting night.
I do have a small problem with this week. Our quarterly meeting at work is Monday... so I can't make it. I don't know if Seth wants to take over or not.
I can be here for painting night tonight. 6-8 ish.
Going to dare to work on my oversized Juggernaut.
As far as playing: Check with me first, and I strongly discourage actual shopping after 7. I completely do not allow browsing or friends/family wandering about after 7pm. It's painting night, not Seth-plays-counter-monkey-a-couple-extra-hours-night.
Right. That's really the key, there. When we do painting night it's something extra that we do for fun and to encourage people to paint. The store is not open those extra hours. Not that we wouldn't let you buy things associated with painting.
BTW - Tim also said that he'd be there tonight so painting night is definitely covered.
I'm really bummed that I won't be there. I'm REALLY close to finishing my Chimera and Sentinal (#2).
is modeling aloud... if i could come... stupid school
dam school and its scooliness! i wish i could come to these things

Um, I think you may want to rethink missing any school.

Oh, that's next Monday. Starts at 6pm, but that's mainly because that's as early as I'm likely to get there. Feel free to bring your stuff in earlier if you like.
