Did you know...(eating version)
We're getting a new Vegan* restaurant in town...close enough to be a new lunch alternative at the store. :D Not specifically excited by vegan, but I'm of the opinion that if it tastes good, then all the better.
And Bottle of Bread has decided to relocate in Greenfield! It's going to be called Hope & Olive. I'm guessing you can figure out why, especially if you're a skater punk.
* I think "vegan" is officially no meat AND no dairy, but I could be wrong.
and BTW, Barts has now extended it's hours. Yum.
Are you talking about Tofu-a-go-go that will be going in where Walter's used to be for the vegan place?
Ok Hope and Olive is an interesting name. But the question is, is it going to be on that corner or is it going to be somewhere completely different? Only place I could think of on that corner would be where the bar is?
Edit: Nevermind, it will be where the bar was. Old Polish Club. Nice. Spitting distance from work.
Yeah, Tofu-A-Go-Go. Not my first name choice, or second, or third.....
And that's right! I forgot the Polish Club had all that construction going on. I assumed it was in the building that housed the old Food Barn. Not quite the scenic view they had in Shelburne. It'll be pretty tough walking home past them and not stopping in for a drink & stuff.
Tofu-A-Go-Go is a lousy name for a place. Sounds like you're getting tasteless food and watching them wear Tutus prancing around. Yeecch!
Nice. :)

So why doesn't greenfield have an Olive Garden? I think we should send an open letter to the following companies requesting that they open locations in greenfield.
Olive Garden
Outback Steak House
IHOP
I want never ending pasta bowls, delicious over priced steak, and pancakes at 2am. So long as they placed them close enough to 91 I think they would do fine. They don't have any direct in place competition and there isn't anything like it for 20 minutes or more in anything direction.
Getting away from chains, why doesn't greenfield have an all night diner? All those bars and no place sober up! Clearly we need the greenfield diner. Diners are prefect places to go after an evening of gaming.
I think that Greenfield should get a japanese style Ramen stand too. I would eat there all the time, and I think that gamers in general would as well. If the prices were in line with Japanese prices, you'd spend about $5 and get a bowl of soup the size of your head. They could have pot stickers too. One problem is that there isn't any place with particularly good foot traffic, but on the plus side the overhead would be minimal. If it had a guy that yelled 'Okini' every time somebody entered it would be even better.

This town does not feature any place you can get any real selection of pastas. Olive Garden would fix that quickly.
Steak you can get at numerous places, but having a place that specializes in steak would absolutely get my vote. The places that offer steak here are mediocre at best.
IHOP. Funny this was brought up as I was having a discussion the other night with someone about IHOP. Greenfield lacks any kind of 'Breakfast anytime' to quote the former and horrible Bickfords. In fact that location would be close to perfect for any of the mentioned above. Might be too big for an IHOP but Olive Garden or Outback would fit perfectly there.
Only reason I don't see an all night diner place is that after about 8pm, the potential customer base would shrink down quite a bit. You have the drunkards sure, and you have a small select crew who would go randomly. The income they'd generate wouldn't cover the expenses spent to stay open sadly. Although I would hit it up once and a while if the food was any good.
We did get Applebees (any of 100 items, all more bland than cardboard soaked in 2% lowfat milk) and soon The 99 (no clue) but I've heard good things about Olive Garden when it comes to that kind of pseudo atmosphere type of place.
Ramen stand would be great, but I can't see them getting the business.
I'm hoping this Vegan place has something as cheap as Antonio's slices or the Hot Dog guy but maybe good for me. That is my dream.
By the way...
Did you know there's a really fancy Italian Restaurant in Turners Falls?!
http://www.ristorantedipaolo.com/
Ristorante DiPaolo. It's expensive ($17+ entrees and $6+ drinks) but really nice. Multiple courses, a pretty extensive menu for such a small place, really cool atmosphere. And my 4-cheese ravioli was really good. Excellent date place if you got the cash, or a great place to take your rich grandparents from NYC. It reminded me of The Green Emporium, but not as funky or fun by far.
I need to go to Olive Garden sometime soon. Its been a while since i've had some of thier soup and white pizza.
I'd like an Bugaboo Creak steakhouse myself. The animatronic decore may be annoying, but their food is great.
OK, Forum Necromancy FTW.
Anyways. This past weekend marked the grand opening of the Hope & Olive Restaurant in Greenfield (if you don't know what it is, look at the name and you'll know where it is on the corner of).
Now my information is coming second-hand so I do not have any real experience of anything there.
From reports, the food there is very tasty, but they do not offer a large variety of selections. The atmosphere is a little more upscale, but not the "must wear a suit" range. The meals range anywhere from around $7 upwards of $25 based on what you're getting and the time of day.
Will post more when I find out more.
It appears to also be bidding for an alternate to the People's Pint for a valley-style destination to drink. Alot of ppl come up to Gfld strictly for the Peoples Pint and nothing else. Now they have another great choice, from what I've seen.
They just have to cater to that Court House & YMCA crowd. To not seems like they'd be ignoring tons of potential cash.

Vegan is at it's most basic no-meat and no dairy. Some take it it a step further and don't eat Honey or use or wear Leather. I know several would be Vegans who are thwarted by the almighty Pizza Pie. :)
