Didja know the rotational speed of the Earth depends on where you are?

At the equator, the earth spins about 1070 mph.
To find the speed of the planet underneath where YOU live, take the cosine of your latitude and multiply it by 1070.

So thats your homework for tonight kids...
One closest to the actual answer gets a cookie.

I would suggest that, although I feel quite sedentary sitting on my stool here, I am in all actuality moving at 186.8216447 miles per hour! Excercise be damned! I'm getting a workout just keeping up with the keyboard! Strangely, I would have guessed faster. I figure it's a Greenfield anomaly.

On a similarnote, in the Roleplaying game Godlike, about World War 2 superheroes, theres a Nazi Ubermench who could "destroy" all inertia on anything he touched. Not that cool a power huh.......THINK AGAIN.

Any object he touched would go rocketing off the earth because of its relivtive speed to it. Tanks, planes, battleships all at such speed that would catch fire in midair. Who needs super strenght when you can do that?

Joe They fit a lot of corpses in that pot o' blood.

shhh, I'm trying to learn, your embarrissing me, go away!

I'm pretty sure I did my math wrong, but my latitude is 42.582098, the cosine of which is (as far as I could get) .345987443 (I'm pretty sure that number has a negative in it, but I dont think im going a negative speed) so my speed is 370.20656401 mph. wow, i used a calculator the entire time and my head hurts.

by the way this is an awesome site: http://www.geocode.com

Warmachine (Cygnar) 1500 pts Warhammer (Tomb Kings) 3000 pts 40k (necrons) 2500 pts (space marines)2000 pts flames of war(british infantry)2000 pts

G: Greenfield Massachusetts Latitude

(glean # from site, have some trouble with this "minutes" crap)

G: definition cosine

(holy crap, screw all that....)

G: What is the cosine of [previously gleaned number]

(take a calculator and multiply the number by that other number, log onto forums, reply with witty answer that makes me look all smart and crap.)

where G=Google :D Guess my search-fu be lacking some.

Speed in Northfield = 299.297032 MPH

Lat = 42.695
Cosine (42.695) = 0.279716852
0.279716852 x 1070 = 299.297032

I'll give this a couple more days before I post MY answer. But you might want to check your math there Seth. 186 is a tad small....
